When Amazon price match Play.com etc

Ok I dont know why people love Amazon more than play delivery and service seems to be about the same but what every it is the difference is negligible.

So when Amazon drop their price to match a competitor why buy from them? Its really counter-intuitive for people looking for a deal waiting for a particular site to sell it for the the SAME amount. In these cases Amazon is reacting rather than being proactive and they do it alot thus if there were no competitors around would they every drop their prices? So if this continues might Play not think "Why drop our prices Amazon will match and everyone buys it from them instead, when we have decided to take a hit and they are only reacting".

And thus competitors will drop their prices less. Obviously if Amazon is cheaper buy it from then but if they have just matched why give them your money and the credit for just reacting to another site and punish the other site that has taken the plunge.

What you may find is other sites dropping their prices on these sorts of items less and less and you will end up paying more in the long run for the like one day quicker delivery from Amazon.

Two words: Amazon Prime

Customer services also play a part if there is a problem...........dealing with Play is like pulling teeth. Amazon are great.

I love amazon unlike play.

SuperEd

amazon great CS, play on the other hand virtually none

Delivery and Customer Services so much better with Amazon

Every time I've ordered from Play its taken a lot longer to turn up than Amazon's deliveries do.

It's because play is ****. Amazon is good.

That's the difference.

Edit. I actually pay more to get things from amazon.

The promotion starts on Monday, but i've got a feeling the deals aren't gonna be as good as people think.

Over 60% off Wii consoles might not mean a console for £70 or so, it could be they they bundle it with a load of crap games/accessories at RRP, and then knock 60% off the total. I see they've also removed the '60% off Xbox 360 consoles' from the holding page too.

If they do however flog them without bundling it with pointless stuff then great

Yep, weird huh oO

Oh, and they've added 360 consoles back on to the page now.

You can't even easily remove CC details from Play.

I believe some of their clothing could be fake too.

Well I've never had a problem with Play except delivery time is longer and even if there are a few niggles i'd rather support free enterprise than follow the leader no initiative, which as I say if Amazon's monopoly grows even larger then you will find fewer and fewer deals.

Wait till you have a problem...........you'll then discover what Play's 'few niggles' are like.

Best way to sum it up for me is like comparing shopping in ASDA to Marks & Spencer.........you can buy the same things but when it comes to the crunch then they are obviously a superior retailer .

I will not use Play, ever since they had their security breached and customers could not even remove their own credit card details, it is easy to do on Amazon.

Amazon delivery and packaging is also far better than Play.

Also, if Amazon have something listed as " in stock " it is, unlike Play that just cancel orders without even an apology.

Ok, but does the same go for the hut, zavvi and every other retailer?

Don't mention The Hut group (Zavvi etc).............they are worse than Play X)

No, the CS at my local Indian takeaway is superb. I've never known Amazon give a free bottle of wine with every order I make X)

I only used trusted retailers, so I wouldn't know about The Hut or Zavvi.:|

I use John Lewis, Asda and other companies that I trust.

+ 1 and I get loads of Amazon vouchers into my account from shop & scan, plus Play attitude to credit card hacking was appalling so don't buy there on principle.

So what is the price threshold for you guys or isnt there one?

For example DvD on Play - £10
Amazon £11

Where would you buy it from and what would be the price difference for you to start buying from Play?

Anything upto £5 more on Amazon and i'd use them. Although i get virtually all of my games from ShopTo nowdays.

Amazon, I would not buy from Play at any price.

i agree.

I had a faulty item from Play. They tried to convince me that I should deal with the manufacturer and then finally let me send it back and then I had to chase them for the return postage and it took a month.

I had a faulty item from Amazon, I printed off a return label posted it and had a CC refund 3 days later.
