Where is safe to keep digital copies of birth certificates etc.

I had to send off my birth certificate today for some legal stuff.
They wanted the original, so I scanned it first.
While I was at it, I scanned marriage certificate, divorce papers, daughters birth certificates etc. etc.
Where would be a good place to store these?
I know I can't use them if something were to happen to the originals, but I just want copies for myself.
I don't want to use Bank Of Iceland, but I would like them somewhere out of the house.
    Any ideas.

No rep will be given for this 'cos I'm a tight git. (Joking)

bury them in a time capsule in the garden, then draw a map and mark x on it !

burn to a disc and take to a relatives.

Get your solicitor to store them. They offer an insured secure service normally.
If you don't have one, go talk to someone about a will and they will talk about secure storage.

    My 2 cents...

Better still post them on a forum like this?

Seriously though if you're not that bothered why don't you email them to yourself? :whistling:

    photobucket?

I just email them to myself and copy in to my oh's email address and a copy on disc in our safe and also parents safe, better safe than sorry, no point having copies for backup in your own house only if a fire breaks out, i do this with all photo's too (the cd part not emailing though)

Well where did you used to keep the originals? Surely where to put them would be of more concern. Don't put em on facebook...

I'd avoid any form of online storage, it's just not reliable enough. ISPs have been known to 'lose' customer's emails.

As for the 300 (or so, plus or minus a thousand) floppies, they are great for starting fires - pull back the metal / plastic head and take a lighter to the 'real' floppy :).

Posting asll these to yourself, in your e-mail account, is a terrible idea. I someone gets into your e-mail account, which is a lot easier than it sounds, then they have a copy of all your documents.

The best way to do it is to have a CD at a designated persons house, or even better, 2 copies in 2 houses, incase one of the cds fail to work

Actually go with the putting them on a floppy disc idea, they'd be truely safe, nobody uses floppy discs anymore so wouldn't have the reader in their computers lol.

Any one know what to do with 300 floppy discs. :w00t:

    Well you did ask!!! :w00t::p

i sent my marraige certificate off when i first claimed child allowance. it was a lovely certificate from the church. it got eaten by the letter opener at the CB office and they replaced it with a standard civil one. i still get upset about it 12 yrs later.

digital copies are only as much use as photocopies.

apparently you can't laminate your marriage certificates. all legal certificates are invalid if laminated!

The best place to put them is on your person, get a Identification chip put somewhere in your body, much like you would micochip ur pet.. just under the skin =D Have your records programed onto it.. and Voila.... super safe! Unless you were to lose the limb that it was stored in, but maybe the back of the neck, therefore if you lost your head, then i dont think you would relli care?

    Thanks for listening
