Found 5th Oct 2009
I have just got a cage (50(L) x 31(W) x 77(H)cm) and now i am trying to decide which type of bird to get. I was originally thinking of 2 lovebirds but after talking to the man in the petshop i am now thinking a cockatiel. I have read a bit about cockatiels and they seem better for the kids as they interact more. What do you think? and does anybody know where the best place is to get birds ( i live in Surrey nr Croydon).

Thanks

think the cage may be a bit too small

I used to have very tame cockatiels one would speak and the other was like a small baby when ever i was around. My female bird would listen out for me to come down the road from work, she would here my ladders rattle on my van and she would come out of her cage and sit on the top of the living room door until i came in ,& she would then fly onto my shoulder and thats where she'd stay until i put her away she would like chirp into my ear fly into the bath when i was there she was so freindly and loving:-D
then i went on my hols and somehow my sister killed them :x

A Fit one for sure.

cockatiels are great fun but very noisy, they have a squark that can be heard a long way off so I hope you get on with your neighbours if you decide to get one

I think Katie Price is a cheap bird but i suspect it will annoy the **** out of you.

oops don't know why the top 2 quotes appeared

I had two cockatiels. One male one female.Lovely birds. The female(Cookie) was hand reared and was so tame.Taught her a few tunes.Used to fly about the living room and land on peoples heads and shoulders.Loved nibbling the wallpaper. The male (Shrek) was only hand tamed and wasn't as good tempered as Cookie. He bit us a few times.I tried to teach him tunes but to no avail. He could copy the telephone ringing though! He could say a few words as well. They are very good birds with kids but they do need attention or lots of toys when your not around.I would recommend getting a hand reared one. They are more expensive but it's worth it.Check out you tube to see what they are like.

Love birds really shouldn't be called that sometimes especially with children but they are not noisy.

BTW Jackdaws can make incredible pets as they are easily trained.

this one flew over the cuckoos nest but then decided to drop in for a day or two

extremely tame, only a young'un, even my collie didn't faze it

left the following day, flew off to be with his mam and dad again.

amazing
