Which is the best and cheapest 7 seater car?

    Hi!
I've got two kids and in-laws in the family. I'm looking to buy a new 7 seater car. I would like to hear your honest opinions before I choose my car as I know that people on this forum are far more knowledgeable.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help and support.

Depends on your budget. Citroen C4 Grand Picasso?

hi we are looking at the moment as well. I like the Ford Galaxy but that is on the expensive side even for a 2-3yr old car. Ive looked at the Citreon 7 seater and Mazda 5 but both of the back seats (the 3 seats) appear to be small ie: the middle seat doesnt seem to be a full sized seat.

I've read so many reviews on these cars it has got confusing, if money was no object I would go for the Ford Galaxy but its a little out of our price range.

Look forward to hearing other feedback

I really like the ford galaxy as you said, if you coudl stretch to that would be a good buy. I know someone in my road has a VW Sharan and they love that.

Honda FRV, is a six seater , but seems quite reliable,

im having the same issue as well. wife and 2 kids. but thinking maybe not chane car as that will involve giving lifts to other people

I don't want to spend a great deal . May be that's why I'm looking at a brand new one which I can change after three/four years. So, I'm looking at a re-sale value as well. How is Zafira? A couple of my staff mentioned that it's a good family car?

Hello first question is do you need a full time 7 seat car?
I have a hyundi Santa fe premium, seven seat. It is an excellent car the only thing poor is, if you put the rear seats up you loose most of your boot space, however the rear seats are proper seats. We have had this car for a couple of years now and new was only £22500. I personally think a top of the range full leather car with self levelling suspension for that money was a bargain.

If you don't do mega miles and are planning on keeping it several years, then a Zafira is a good bet at around £10-11k with 100,000 mile no time limit warranty.

I would say Vauxhall Zafira, but make sure you get at least a1600 cc.,I have had 2 in the past and they are good reliable cars

    Galaxy

galaxy, even the old old ones are good (have the Volkswagen/Audi engine still)

Do they do a smaller engine?

We used to have a ford galaxy a few years ago,we needed a 7 sweater and looked at a few. Originally looked at the zafira but decided against it as the seats were quite flimsy. I didn't like the fact that you had to slide the middle ones forward to get the back ones up-no good with car seats! Unit was also a carry on getting kids in.

Ended up with an older galaxy 1.9tdi which served us well for a good 5 years,we then sold it on eBay as we used it for 4 kids I ended up removing the middle seat from the middle row for a while, that way kids could jump in easy enough using the back door.

We had to buy an older car to get the solid decent seats, diesel etc but it done the job ok.

I have one of these as well. Considered the Zafira/Touran/Mazda 5 etc - in the end the FRV stood out in terms of build quality and adaptability, not to mention reliability.

Galaxy is the obvious choice as they keep their value, mates got a Scenic and that goes like a beast. Seats are a bit hard though.

vauxhall zafira is the one we have and it is very value for money in comparison to other MPV. brand new i think their list price is only £14k or so. it is not a large vehicle however so the 3rd row can only fit young children and is a bit of a squash if you have anyone above 5ft in it.

citreon picasso is also another value for money one I think.

galaxy is quite expensive but is a large MPV which I believe has the 3rd row for adults comfortably.

S-Max That's a decent MPV if you can't afford the Galaxy.

Don't buy anything French or Italian, They will break down..!!!

I've had Mk1 and Mk2 Galaxy's, they are the same as Sharan/Alahambra's, Not all engines are VW, 2.3 petrol was a Ford engine, Always proved very reliable.

The new Ford Galaxy isn't though, It's Ford's very own creation, Got good reviews etc... and would have one myself if I could afford one.

Currently got a 1.8 Zaffira, It's ok and suits my need's, But Zaffira's love to burn oil, Cambelts and headgaskets are common issues, I miss my Galaxy, The space and refinement was much much better and drove a lot nicer than the Zaffira.

Maybe an older mk2 Galaxy/Sharan/Alambra, Perhaps a one owner with full service history etc would be a good choice.

Smaller MPV's may prove a better choice economically though, hence why I've downsized lol.

S-max love ours and drives much better than the galaxy

The Citroen Grand C4 1.6HD Semi Auto is probably the best 7 seater car i have had.

I've owned a Zafira for over 5 years , had no problems with it except a coil pack needing replaced after 5 weeks of owning it ,replaced free as I took out a 3 year warranty . It was bought second hand . Tax is a bit expensive though for a 1.6 , the 1.8 Zafira is even more expensive .It's comfortable and quite roomy ,mpg is about 42 on a long run .Yes , the engine does use about a litre of oil per 1000 miles and it seems a high reving engine .But mine starts first time and has been very reliable.

Push the boat out go Ford or VW I've had both and both excellent use a Vauxhall on holiday its horrid feels cheap !
Got a galaxy at the moment well wife has she would not be without it

we bought our 1.8l petrol zafira 6 months old from the car supermarket for £8.5k and have never had any problem with it. It is 5 years old now and still going fine and we have driven it long distances up and down the country as well as to southern Spain.

great value car but not the best to drive as it can be a bit sluggish but great for carrying things like furniture in the back as the 3rd row folds down and the 2nd row moves forwards.

Have a look here for some ideas.

If you aren't looking to spend a great deal and want to sell it in a few years, I'd stay away from a brand new car.
The loss of value the moment you drive it off the forecourt is ridiculous and personally I'd suggest that you look at ones which are a few years old to minimise the loss of value over the 3 or 4 years you plan on keeping it.

A Zafira isn't a bad buy for new as you can pick them up for about £10k (about £8k off list price), trouble free driving for a while and even if you lose 50% over 3-4 years that's £5k compared to £12.5k on something like a Galaxy.

Just had a look and 09 plate Zafira Exclusiv start at £6k, that's a four grand loss in 3 1/2 years. Pretty good going.

ok so youve had a bad experience with 2 cars and no others i take it..... which models were these cars how old were they......etc etc

what other cars have you had.....

lets put this into perspective....... because french and italian cars arent neccesarily built there and they fair higher than most german in the reliability index

can you post anything to substantiate your opinion?

It isn't just the engines that break on French / Italian cars, they have many other faults, and of course not many French cars actually have Japanese engines.

Anybody in the motor trade will confirm that generally French and Italian cars are inferior in build quality to the majority of other vehicles such as Japanese and Korean cars.

minus points for taking my post out of context......

statistics say germans cars are more likely to breakdown than french & italian
