http://www.whisky-online.com/a-to-z-single-malt-whisky/glendronach.htmlmany experts agree that glendronach is the best-quite expensive tho

Glen Morangie or Bowmore are my faves, but its all down to personal taste.

    A nice bottle of bells!!!!!!

Highland Park 18 is an amazing whisky that is award winning and more importantly respected by whisky drinkers. It retails for around £60-£80 a bottle.
Is that the sort of thing you were after?

I married into a scots family and their tipple of choice is Strathisla, normally I dont like whiskey but dont mind a dram or 3 of that.

Instead of a bottle how about a whiskey tasting tour instead, I did one at Creiff Hydro hotel whilst at a conference, we "toured" the lowlands, highlands and islands supping many whiskies, I have never been so ill, not so wise when your the keynote speaker the next day!!!!

Jamesons or Jack Daniels Silver Select are my faves, give them a whirl:D

Neither of these are single malts or whisky though so are not really relevant answers to the question "Which is the best single malt whisky?"

I think you'll find this is blended, similar too Bells also, not a single malt, but Chevas still nice with a bit of ice.

This one seems rather exclusive ;-)

On a more sensible note, I'd recommend Old Poultney at £20-25.

I thought the JD silver select was a 'single'?

Don`t think you`d go far wrong with a bottle of this mate:

The above wesbite is also a good searching point to look at various ones. You can search by budgets etc and can view descriptions of each one which may give you a better idea what to go for if you know what your father`s palette is like.

It is a Single Barrel not a Single Malt. A single barrel just means that it comes from the content of a single barrel used for maturation and is not blended with others for consistency. Single Malt means that only malted barley is uses as the grain and it comes from only one distillery.

Lol @ the guy who said the following on that website:

    Quite good, but not great

    Rating (3.5)

I usually prefer Johnny Walker Black, but I had to make do with this as a "gift" i found in my fathers collection when he passed on. It was a pretty good balance of taste and goes very well in a Coke Zero. So you mix this in with some ice and Coke Zero and its a real hit. Sadly I was only able to drink half of the bottle, got a little too tipsy and dropped the bottle, shattering it and wasting half, but like I said it wasnt really that good.
