Hi, I am looking for a laptop up to around £400. at the moment I have a Acer Aspire 5315-100508Mi but I keep having problems with it. I've heard mixed reviews for the HP Compaq and also for Dell. Has anyone had experience with these or has anyone got any recommendations or any laptops to stay away from.

In general, the top 4 laptop manufacturers are HP/Compaq, Dell, Toshiba & Sony.

Sony are very good quality but you will pay a premium for them.

The other three are very similar but I would choose a Toshiba because the laptops are good and the customer service is excellent.

I would stay away from Acer, Advent, Packard Bell, Medion, & Fujitsu-Siemens because they are at the lower end of the market - cheap & cheerful.

Hope this helps!

Can you tell me if this laptop is any good please? Toshiba Satellite L300-1G8 from Cdiscount £359.99. Sorry don't know how to add a link.

I have run a Fujitsu Siemens v5505 from ebuyer for over 2 years with no problems.
Except when I dropped it on the screen lol.
Managed to replace the screen no probs with one from ebay and its still going strong.
