Which laptop would you go for and why?

    Morning all,

I want to purchase a laptop, dont have a huge budget and have recently dicovered ebay shops... mainly argos

I do not really play games, and if I were to, the kind of games I would play are command and conquer style games, so nothing to intensive. I do a big of video/photo editing, but mainly web surfing and socialising. I have found a few laptops within my price range, but wanted to get a view as to what you would go for any why.

    Thanks in advance

I agree, but the previous comment was fairly unhelpful, he recommended a £3000 laptop, if anyone can help I would appreciate it

    Attitude dropped

Anyone else fancy giving their 2 pence?

post up a list of each laptops specs - that might make people more inclined to comment so they don't have to visit each page themselves.

have had a look and without looking into each very carefully, i'd say the Toshiba. It's one of the cheaper ones, decent enough processor, plenty of RAM, decent gfx card for non-high end games, wireless-n enabled...
Wouldn't bother with the Vaio - doesn't look like you get much extra for the extra money. Seems to be the way with Vaios.. can anyone vouch for why they're 'better'? My friend got one a few years ago and the specs weren't all that and it was waaay more expensive than any other laptop in the same range.

p.s. didn't think you had an 'attitude' as mentioned by the other posters. Bit touchy i think.

I quite like the idea of having seomthing smaller, but is it really worth £100 more?

I didn't realise the Toshiba had onboard graphics.. so the Sony wins with regards to that. You'll have to read up on system requirements for your games to make sure they work with the Intel GMA 4500M.

Going by the benchmark results ]here there isn't much difference between the two processors....
    Intel Core2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz (Toshiba)
Passmark CPU Mark (higher is better): 1323
    Rank (lower is better): 303

    Intel Core2 Duo T8100 @ 2.10GHz (Sony)
Passmark CPU Mark (higher is better): 1345
    Rank (lower is better): 296

The Vaio has a smaller screen which may be a pro or a con depending on your views on portability..
note that the Toshiba has a larger hard drive too.. you need to think about how much space you might need in the future as well as what you'll use when you get it

OMH, you are on fire today, I checked the benchmark too and saw very little difference…

I think it is going to be the Sony as it is a better offer all round.

I have a portable 500GB HDD which I use for all my media so it would just be programs/applications being installed.

Just going to check if there have been any issues with the range from Sony… other then that, I think it could be the one…

I think you have had some good advice - I would add that it also depends somewhat on if the screen resolution is very important to you, none of those you listed have higer res. displays.

Personally (for both work and non-work reasons) I would go for a higher res offering than any of those - to be honest I would be tempted to get a Dell - there have been quite alot of Dell Outlet offers rencently - lots of people moan at Dell's (lack of) quality but i have always found them to be fairly robust and they are certainly 'cheap'. I think ultimately you will alwyas find someone desperate to put down one brand becuase of their poor personal experience but it isnt necessarily a representative view!
