Amazon or eBay, which one do you prefer as a reliable and cheap source for online shopping?

Neither, I'd only buy from ebay or Amazon marketplace as a last resort. Far too much chance of getting fakes and other dodgy items.

Amazon

ebay for anything less than £20

Amazon was better when no prime

eBay

EBay these days , Amazon maybe for a higher priced item . Amazon pricing (especially "Prime eligible" ) is way over the top now they have hooked enough mugs

Amazon have been disappointing the last few months but I'd go with them as the 'lesser evil'. Ebay can be unpredictable sometimes.

Depends on the item. I feel I can buy reliably and safely from Amazon. With eBay I've had some poor experiences such as a new item which clearly wasn't and others that were badly packaged so had damaged boxes.

This.

Amazon prime is ace

EBay now.
Amazon's customer service is rubbish - at least you get your money back with eBay.
Also lots of dodgy sellers on Amazon.

Fully agree about Amazon. I complained about poor delivery and they cancelled my Prime.

Depends on what I am buying. Much prefer to handle with Amazon for something with a warranty that you might need to use (not talking on a £1 cable or something here!). USB Type C cables another example where I'd trust Amazon over ebay for them being properly certified (really who trusts charging a £400 or more device with a £1 lead). Would buy banana shaped nail files for my mother on Ebay much much cheaper than Amazon as one example. I'm in N.Ireland so sometimes will be ebay over Amazon because of the not shipping laws regarding some products.
To answer well I have no answer it's called shopping around and picking what matches your needs at the time.

I like them both for different things, the same sellers on eBay and Amazon can be 10-20% different in price between the two, i.e. Music magpie used DVD 99p on eBay or 1p plus £1.26 postage, same with second hand books eBay tends to be cheaper than amazons postage rate
