I'm looking to buy a laptop, i've got two choices both at dell outlet.

One has the Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor - 2200 with 320GB and 2GB ram.

The other one is a Pentium - 2160 with 2GB ram but also 160GB ram.

Both of the are around £320 delivered - is this a good deal? And does it come with a year warranty from Dell outlet?

The number 2160 and 2200 refer to the SPEED of the CPU (2.16Ghz and 2.20Ghz).

You need to press the blue "Item details" field on the left to get the ACTUAL processor number.

It seems the 2160 may actually be the Pentium Dual Core T3400 according to the Dell Outlet site (runs at 2.16Ghz).

And the 2200 may be the Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 - runs at 2.20Ghz.

I did not check all laptops so they may not ALL be T3400 and T6600, they were just the one I checked.

Generally a Core 2 Duo will be better than a Pentium Dual Core.

Not so true with the newer chips of the mobility Pentium Dual Cores. They generally run the same now, but still the speed is slightly better so would probably be a better bet.

Ah yes you are correct T6600 vs T3400. Is the T6600 better than the T5800?

I take it the bigger the Txxxxx the better the processor, been a long time since I bought a laptop and intel seem to be confusing the matter even further.

Would dell outlet be brand newish?

a core 2 duo is newer than said pentium dual core.

From my experience pc wise, there isnt too much difference between either, unless you have a top end core2duo.

That said, on a desktop a good e5300 is as good as a decent core2duo.

IMO, the budget range laptops use the older technology, if I was buying another laptop i'd spend a bit more and try to get as up to date as poss.

ps: Im using a macbook, in a few months will probably be getting a windows laptop though.

Well they are refurbished:
"This is product, which has been returned to Dell for a variety of reasons including cancellation and specification changes."
Unless they are scratch and dent then they have different grades of how bad they are.

I've just bought the DELL OUTLET laptop for £318 Delivered - is it a good deal?, specs:

(only 2GB ram and intels built in GPU and screen res ain't brill - 1366x768, but not bad for £320?)

Not too fond of the medion, at £400 it's a bit expensive - has the better GPU, but only 2GB extra ram (~£20), and is over £180 more expensive, plus the T6600 processor is better.

You won't find 2GB ram for £20 in many place at the moment I doubt. But I'd choose a dell over medion, even at a small cost/lower spec.

As would I, dells CS is quite good. Hows the price? It seems about right because this same model was £399 about 4 months ago on HUKD: hotukdeals.com/ite…-2-

Now I'm getting it £80 cheaper with a bigger HD (which is offset by the smaller 3GB RAM vs 2GB ~£10).

It will do just fine for work/office/internet. There were some celerons, but I wouldn't touch them and 2MB cache is pretty decent for a laptop.

Also comes with a 6 cell battery!

I wouldnt touch a celeron, I am on one at the moment, although I have a desktop which is a AMD X3 @ 2.9ghz + 8gb ddr3 + 4870 1gb +820gb hard drive space. But I am selling that in favour of this laptop from dell outlet:
Studio 1747
17.3in High Definition+ (1600X900) LED with TrueLife
English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
500GB Serial ATA (5400RPM)
4096MB (2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Graphics 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
Dell Wireless 1397 (802.11 b g)
Black Chainlink
8X DVD+/-RW
Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard
Camera Integrated 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera
As the property we are buying I wont have space for a big desk and power desktop.

Price thus seems alright, especially for your usage.
