    Which RAM is Best?

Hi Guys. I'm looking to upgrade the memory for my HP Laptop from 2gb to 4gb. It seems the two options I have are ddr2 pc2-5300 and ddr2 pc2-6400.
Its the same price but i have no idea what the difference is or which is best.
    anyone help me decide.
    thanks in advance.

go for the 6400 as its faster than the 5300:

    # PC2-5300 = 667 MHz data & strobe / 333 MHz clock for address and control
    # PC2-6400 = 800 MHz data & strobe / 400 MHz clock for address and control

    ok.. thanks..
another question. my laptop has two memory slots, how do i check if its currently using 2x1GB or jus a 2GB ram?? im not sure if thats a silly question, but i was jus wondering if i could just buy another 2gb stick or do i need to get a pair..

Search for a online system scanner / diagnosis....

Crucial should still do this free as part of diagnostics....

I think this is a waste of time.

You will gain almost nothing in terms of performance.

If you are running 32 bit Windows it cannot use more than a tad above 3Gb anyway.

I think an extra 1GB of ram will still help me and the performance will be noticeble.

it depends on max RAM your lappy can accommodate. if the max is 4GB only than it woukd be unnecessary to have an free slot anyway.

4gb RAM may not enhance performance too big but it will be beneficial in other measures e.. the life of the laptop

It depends on what you're doing really. I regularly exceed 2GB myself but some people won't notice the difference.

I'm not sure how extra memory is supposed to stop your laptop breaking down though.
