    Which Roku to buy please?

    Hi
I'm looking to buy a streaming device in order to subscribe to Netflix. I don't want to play games or need to listen through earphones. Will the Roku 1 be good enough or false economy in the long term? Streaming stick looks interesting, as does the Amazon fire. Oh dear...... Confusion reigns!

I have googled but thought would get best advice here

I have streaming stick it pretty good screen mirroring does not quite work though still ironing out bug (lip sync) on both live stream , playing a media file.

The Roku 1 is fine if you only want 720p - however, you can't run the latest version of the Netflix app on that - that's only on the Streaming Stick or the Roku 3.

I can't comment on the Streaming Stick, but I've got a Roku 1 and 3 and like both (they're simple enough to use that the other 1/2 doesn't moan !

I would suggest the Roku 3. it always helps having the option of Ethernet rather than having to rely on wireless.

The Roku 1 does play 1080p but it only has Wi-Fi so buffers more .
I think you will may be best with the Roku 2/3 so as to get the Ethernet connection

Oops - as stefromuk pointed out, the Roku 1 does do 1080p - I was aiming to say that whilst it's 'capable' of doing 1080p, in my experience over Wireless the streaming just doesn't work that reliably - certainly the Roku 3 is the one I tend to use more for that.

Still like the Roku tho' , works well with PLex too :-)

i know you only said Roku but if it just for netflix than go chromecast i have had no faults with mine and i only go it for nexflixs.
    hope this helps

Thanks but I've read more troubled reviews with chrome cast than Roku.

yeah i was the same pal, but went with Chromecast in the end because of cost at the time and i dont regert it, £18 i paid so cannot complain.

For me the Roku one was just fine, I don't think you get any more channels for buying a more expensive version either.

I've got the Roku LT and it's great. I think it may be discontinued but deals for it still seem to turn up on here for round about £25 or so. I think the later models have more bells and whistles, but if you just want a device for basic streaming (i really only got mine for Netflix), then this is perfect.
