The Toshiba has a better Dynamic Contrast Ratio (i think the higher the number the better it is) This is quite important. They both have 3 HDMI ports. The Samsung also has an 'Entertainment Mode' which might be useful. They both look to be decent TVs. Have a read of the reviews.

Ignore the "Dynamic" contrast ratio, as this is entirely decided by the manufacturer after several processing effects are added. The standard contrast ratio will give a truer reflection of contrast performance.

In my opinion, if you want a 37" TV, then don't bother wasting your cash on a 1080p set, as with that screen size, unless you sit very close, it would be very hard to discern the definition difference.

Get a good 37" 720p set from Sony, Panasonic or Samsung

Just my opinion :-)

That wouldn't be HD though would it? They might want it for the games console or watch movies.

I think you need to read up.

Standard definition in the UK is at best 576p, so a 720p TV is indeed Hight Def (HD). It is not the highest definition, but in my opinion you need at least a 40" screen at the recommended viewing distance to notice the difference between 720p and 1080p.

you would be better looking at AVforums for advice than here.

From memory the Tosh has bad viewing angles but the samsung had issues as well. all you need to know about the sets is on AVforums.

Why not pust the boat out a bit further and get a sony KDL 40V4000 (about £683 at the mo)
