Please don't feel alone mate, there's always something that can be done and someone you can talk to. Even come on here and chat to randomers. The Samaritans are a great bunch of people and they won't section you. Give them a ring, what've you got to lose!

I'm so sorry to ask for help on here...I'm just suffering so much... full of anxiety and low mood. i didn't know anywhere else to look or ask. thank you for the advice and support.

call samaratins fella/lass...do you have contact with local mental health teams,if not call your gp surgery in the morning and explain...are you on Meds, if so check you took them when meant to...and avoid drink and drugs as when you come down its worse..

I don't know if it helps but there are quite a few folk in the same boat, sectioning is unlikely unless you're a definite danger to self or others..is this the first time,if not try using the coping strategy u used before...
good luck and take it easy and slow, call the samaritans and gp in the morning.

Stay safe Smarty121, feel free to message me if would help in any way.

Take heart Smarty....I needed the Samaritans two years ago - thought I was going mad with depression and anxiety. They were amazing and so kind.....took a while but I recovered and feel so different now. Please don't suffer in silence - continue to reach out as you have been and don't be on your own with your head for too long! Btw it takes a lot to get sectioned (my sister is bi polar) - have to be a clear danger to self or others. Sounds like you are going through a very rough patch but remember that 'This too shall pass'..wishing you all the best. PS check out Sanctuary for Terror on Face book - brilliant when you are having a dark night of the soul - saved my bacon a few times too. All the best and take care

You aren't alone.

If you need help and feel that you can't get it from the Samaritans, you can go to A&E any time, and don't worry - they aren't likely to section you!

My brother has been where you are, and when he went to A&E the crisis team helped him immensely, and he had full control over his treatments etc. as he had voluntarily gone to them asking for help and recognised that he needed help.

There is another HUKD member who is also going through similar struggles to you and you may find the advice offered to him helpful, and it may be a relief to know that just as the HUKD community wants to support Cloudthecat, we will be there for you too if you need us.

Have a look here:

hotukdeals.com/mis…434

No one's going to section you just because you are feeling depressed and or anxious. Just try the Samaritans has already suggested I am sure they will be able to help you.

The best thing you've done so far is ask for help on a deal site

Think yourself proud for achieving that

Then take the next small step and contact any one of the above organisations / phone numbers and just keep trying to achieve one step at a time slowly - there's no rush

And if you get the help why don't you come back and just add to this thread as an update (so that we know you are getting sorted and maybe to help others in similar situations).

All the best - there are many good people on HUKD - some that will go the extra mile to assist even those people that they don't know << doffs cap in respect

no need to be scared, I can't even imagine what your probably going through, but I believe your heading in the right direction by coming out and seeking advice/help.

Don't know if the talk to Frank line still exists, but as the others said contact the Samaritans they should be able to assist.

I know I've said it loads of times but thank you so much everybody for your support.. I've not been on here before and didn't know what kind of reaction I would get.. im just waiting for my assessment now. I feel embarrassed, ashamed and like I'm a weak person for this happening.

Also make sure your GP is in the loop and of course you can always start by calling 111 should you need to in the future plus the excellent resources posted by the kind folks above.
You should be introduced to the likes of Talking Therapies, Mood Gym, support groups and f2f with a counsellor.
One point, please do not self medicate using OTC drugs or alcohol. Been there, it makes things worse. Take care. x

You are not weak! Just coming on here and facing up to the enormity of the problem is brave and strong, and I'm proud of you for that!

You have a medical issue, there is something chemically incorrect in your brain. There is nothing to be embarrassed about, and thankfully the stigma around mental health problems is eroding and people understand - and accept - it a lot more than they used to.

You're doing great - you've accepted that you have a problem and you've asked for help.

It does take time to find the right treatment plan, there is a lot of trial and error, so if the first help doesn't quite nail it then don't be disheartened as there are soooo many different treatments that with a little bit of perseverance you will find what works with you. Just be honest with your doctors and honest to yourself!

exactly what I've been doing self medicating with alcohol... cut down dramatically since 18th December... not stopped but controlling it well. thankyou

Alcohol does a number of things, none of them helpful. It acts as a depressant, it may help you sleep but it will be low quality sleep, it weight on. Avoid if at all possible, I bet you will feel a little better. Also avoid any over the counter (otc) herbal stuff like Kalms. Can have completely the opposite effect and make you sleep deprived, paranoid and you may hallucinate. Been there too.
Try and set yourself a task every day that involves walking somewhere, exercise should make you feel better. I've been out doing the garden at 5AM before!
Anyway, after your appt you should have loads of advice and tools. so good luck!

Well done for cutting back. I bet you knew it was the wrong thing to do, but it can be hard to break the negative cycle. You might look back and remember the day you posted on HUKD with fondness!

Smarty, you're far from weak! You also have no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed - reaching out for help is the right thing to do and that's exactly what you did. I would hope anyone would do the same if they were struggling so much. How did your appointment go and how are you feeling now?

Go to see your gp in the first instance as you will more than likely need medical assessment and treatment. Dont worry about being section, will only happen in extreme cases.

The fact that you are aware you have a problem and that you are concerned that you may get sectioned already indicates to me that you havent reached that extreme stage yet, which you may do if you dont seek help. Then it may be too late and you will regret your actions.

today's a 9/10 it started off about 5/10.. 10 being a bad day.
last night we 10/10 but the day before that was about a 3/10.
My appointment went OK thank you for asking. Outcome was 8 sessions of Counselling starting next Tuesday.
I'm waiting for occupational health to get back to me as they don't want me returning to work until March. They're also referring me for CBT.. to help me with my fear of busy places, supermarkets, gym, canteen in work because in November I started avoiding my breaks by hiding in the toilets... funny I know but not sure why it's got to this.

The problem with drink was to give me confidence at any time of day, the second problem is once I have one I can't stop until nothing more can fit inside me...then there's the memory loss after I've sobered up..

Depression is almost always progressive, meaning it gets worse over time. If you were struggling at work, it may explain why you're struggling now. Taking a couple of months off work sounds sensible to me - if you can, you possibly should. I'm so glad you're going to start counselling next week, and a bit later on, CBT. I do wonder if you have a psychiatrist as well. If so, can you talk to them too? If not, would you like one? A few people have recommended you speak to your GP and I can't recommend this highly enough. GPs hold the keys for alsorts of services and organisations and it can be a huge relief to people just to offload to a professional in times of great stress. Your GP can refer you to a psychiatrist if you don't already have one, and can also support you through counselling and CBT as your work with the therapists progresses. I won't go into details about my profession but I have qualifications in the field of mental health and have experience working in the field also. If ever you want to message me for support or guidance, you are more than welcome - and this applies to anyone reading this also.
I have everything crossed that tomorrow is a much better day for you and that you can hang in there until your counselling starts on Tuesday. There are lots of places you can seek support in the meantime, should you need it, which includes the Samaritans, your GP, Mind mental health charity, local organisations and NHS 111 if you need medical assistance. Keep going - you're doing great, even if it doesn't feel like it just now

EDIT: Unfortunately I have a troll who follows me round the message boards 'down-voting' my comments because they haven no life and nothing better to do.

I can't offer advice about alcohol as I'm not a drinker unless the odd birthday celebration or similar but you've took a very big step today in getting proper help and going to the counselling session and also fixing with work OT etc

Things can only get better from now on but on the downside unless you've got good family or friends you'll get bored easily and end up thinking more and that might be a bad thing. Is there anything your family or friends can do to help you fill your day whilst you are "off sick" or maybe the local charity (eg shop not so busy) or animal charity (eg dog walkers) ?

Thanks for the updates and hoping "life" gets better for you (and others in similar situations)

I hope that you're doing ok and have a nice weekend planned, or even a nice weekend of doing nothing and relaxing!

There's good support on MIND's Elefriends page, you can post on there in confidence and it's good to reach out to others who will listen (it's not staffed by professionals, it's just others in a similar situation).

Might be an option in the future. Hope you're feeling better today. x

Out for a meal Saturday for my brothers birthday, going to try and go to the gym Saturday morning, got a viewing from a potential buyer for my house today, Sunday resting hope you have a good weekend too

Booze always has a much more severe longer lasting downer than upper for me.
High Carb and consequent insulin induced blood sugar downer has the same effect for me,not so pronounced.
Eat non white fish (sardines) or eggs for breakfast, works for me.

Great! Glad you're finding the website useful. I have posted on there myself. I find it very, very hard to be honest with people in real life so sometimes just getting it "out" my head and people listening and caring helps. Picking up the phone is intimidating for me, and I know I won't express everything I want to say.

Sometimes venting online helps you unravel complex emotions or situations you can't see clearly.

Wishing you a relaxing and positive weekend x
