Who here is a Christian and attends the Sunday Prayers?

As above I was just wondering as I live near a fairly big church , about 4-5 years ago it used to be really busy ie the road was full of cars. But in the recent years it's been very quiet. Still hear the church bells.

Also in the bible does it say you have to attend Sunday prayers?

It is not compulsory for Christians to go to church on Sunday and i dont think there's such thing as 'Sunday prayers' you are supposed to pray without ceasing and can prayer wherever and whenever you want, in the toilet or walking on the street or in the comfort of your bedroom. Most people go to church for worship and fellowship not for the prayers really as you can pray anywhere. The main reason why many Christians dont go to church in my opinion is laziness!

Maybe many people still go to the church near you but just dont own cars?

I'd like to think more people are becoming atheists, but they are probably just lazy.

We're trying to move away from religion in this country.

we visited canterbury cathedral today. soooooo beautiful and awesome in the true sense of the word.

sadly there seems to be less people following religion at all/properly in this day and age. shame, as i personally feel religion is a good thing.....as lame and unfashionable as that is!

    haha easy thing to be!

No, I used to go to a very religious primary school but have had so much bad stuff happen I don't see the point in worshiping someone/something who could let that happen to me and my family.
But each to their own, I know some people who find solace in religion.
In our village there seem to be less cars in front of the church on a Sunday than 10 years ago, but there was a big uproar when we got a female priest and some people moved to the next village's church instead.

Religion has caused a huge amount of wars in history and has many have intolerant ideas but I think I know where you are coming from.

Nothing motivates thicko religious types like a bit of sexism.

Thanks ilovelilac. Also it's appears to be predominately Asian Chrisitians who go to it more now.

I think your right OP, there does seem to be less and less people going to church now, a lot of churches are now being bought and turned into mosques

Beans, i think belief is fine if people find solace in it, though it's based on nothing.

Organised religion however is corrupt, in all forms to date.

I'm an atheist because with the knowledge i have it seems the most rational choice.

It's the circle of life - a couple of year's down the road the mosques will be bought up and turned into whatever fad religion is next. Maybe the jews will turn them into comedy clubs.

eca07 sorry if i offended, wasnt my intention, i thought u were joking saying, ppl dont go church as they are lazu so its easier to say 'im an atehist'!

i think we are gonna disagree, organised religion isnt always corrupt. how it is interpreted down the line can change and ppl can corrupt it.

fair dues if the current interpretation is a turn off.....

Depends on the type of church tbh, i've been to the catherdal in my city and its mostly full of old white folks, the methodist church is mostly white old folk and middle aged people of all races with children and the church i go to is full of everyone of all ages and all races

faith in superstition has always baffled me.

FF, haha....i see what u did there!

Well welcome to HUKD - feel free to make some interesting observations and make your mark with memorable quips and comments.

    Have fun.

Beans, no offense taken, being difficult to offend is a benefit of my faith

I wasn't joking. People are lazy, lazier than they used to be, and as much as i'd like a move away from organised religion the likelihood is they simply don't care.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

I was up and about early today (normally have a mega long lie on a Sunday) and walked the dog...........we passed the chapel in my village as everyone was coming out. I couldnt believe how busy it was! I thought I was the only person up and about that early lol. It was lovely to see so many families coming up and everyone chatting. Someone called out my name and said "ooh nice to see you out this lovely Sunday morning" lol

BB exaclty, if you do as he religion says and dont go extreme, its what i feel you need to achieve that inner peace. but like eac07 says, he finds that peace without religion. we can debate that point till the cows come home, but fact is if we rmbr that peace is the main objective then we wouldnt have so much in the way of wars etc.....falsely in the name of religion..imo

The 'religions' or original texts are actually quite extreme. They were written hundreds of years ago. They're cruel, stupid, racist and misogynistic.

Sadly, its true this country is being taken over and going to the dogs. I wouldn't be surprised if people start protesting about it TBH.

Suppose this thread will bring out all sorts of views..........but one thing I will say, there isnt that many "things" that bring the whole family together nowadays. But again in saying that, when we were young, we were all sent to church whether we wanted to go or not...............and reckon perhaps that was to keep up appearances, or keep up with the Jones's............so perhaps a lot of the families I saw this morning were doing the same. Who knows.

The wife is and does (including praying before sleep), she is american and her family is very religious... I am not and do not (I'm of no religion, if anything I am humanist but definitely not atheist, as that is a belief and I have none).

I was at a 'humanist' funeral not long ago, and found it awful. All my friends did (was a friend's mother who had died). But really we have to respect all different types of religion and beliefs.

    why bb?

Before I got married, I attended the bf's family's local church whenever we were in Glasgow and I used to love it. I was always made to feel welcome and when we got married in that church, lots of the regular worshippers came to watch. Sadly, the congregation grew smaller as the people got older and died and it was eventually taken over by another denomination. I still have happy memories even though it wasn't my religion.

guv i didnt get it.?? im a bit dense! haha

s2rocks the americans are quite religious....they make religion appealing to kids as well. its good they have those values, whereas here it feels like if u follow a religion u are compared to someone from the dark ages!!!

BB agreed some ppl who go do it to look good as opposed to pleasing God...which is pretty pointless. but having something the whole family does is pretty good as well, no? used to find it annoying having to go mosque as a kid as well (the other girls wer not my type...bit too loud, i was always very quiet....!) but as i got older i enjoyed going there, meeting friends and feeling part of a community and i want my kids to attend and realise there is more to life ....
