Who knew? Firing Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear was a huge mistake - Ex BBC Boss

Found 23rd Aug 2016
The BBC made a massive mistake by firing “Top Gear” host Jeremy Clarkson last year — or so the network’s former boss thinks.

While the drama surrounding Clarkson’s suspension and subsequent dismissal for assaulting a producer sparked huge headlines around the world, it’s resulted in the disaster for the hit motoring show.

“Clarkson can be a deeply objectionable individual, and I say that as a friend. I don’t think people should punch their colleagues. It’s hard to keep them if they do,” Mark Thompson, who is now CEO of the New York Times, told Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine.

OK? lol

The BBC did some of us a huge favour, especially since iPlayer will need a licence next month. Now I can watch The Grand Tour on Amazon.

The network's former boss needs his head looking at. Thank God Clarkson has gone, the pretentious, sexist pr***!

Yep. The biggest export of the BBC now makes the grand total of NOTHING

He is a very ancient tired brand that best be dumped with his junk car jokes. The BBC execs who want him stay on should be tried for crime against new British talents and fresh acts.

Clarkson is the reason Top Gear makes nothing, lets not make out he was a victim.. Im confused why everyone thinks he shouldn't of got fired at the end of the day he assaulted someone.

But the BBC protected Savile for years. It doesn't seem to matter what sort of excrement you are, as long as you bring in the audiences, you're safe at the Beeb.

Top Gear was fading and the BBC needed an excuse to get rid of its costly has-been presenters so they took the opportunity when it arose. The suit who used to run the BBC knew exactly what he was doing but is now quite happy to stab himself in the back for reasons known only to himself!

DISGUSTING, they should've let the violent racist bully keep his job, Jimmy Saville and DOZENS of others did when the BBC knew what was going on!

BBC keeps on kicking itself.

Stuff like this just points to the BBC's ineptitude in certain areas. Firstly they failed to recognise that the strength of Top Gear wasn't the brand, but the chemistry between the three hosts.

Therefore they should've retained Clarkson no matter what, simply because the revenue the show brought in was too important. Allowances are always made for talent but the BBC caved in to pressure from those who would benefit from the BBC being dismantled.

As someone who likes the BBC, stuff like this makes it very hard to defend them.

They should have suspended him for 6 months, or made him cook a steak dinner for Oisin.
