    Crazy Council -

i would let them serve an order - take it to court

    its a school!!!!

Selby school cancels outside break in row over noise

Children at a school near Selby have had a play break cancelled and hard ball games banned after neighbours complained to the council about noise.

Barlby Community Primary School has also put up a soundproof fence because it fears a noise abatement order.

The school said the decisions were "regrettable" but necessary to prevent the chance of a notice being served.

Next step is to make the children wear slippers in case their shoes make too much noise!

I bet the school has been there a great deal longer than the "neighbours" who are complaining.....

disgusting, that it even got that far, what's next noise abatement orders on motorways from nearby residents...............

If the school was there when they bought the house - tough!!! If they don't like it they can move again.

Honestly, I despair of our society sometimes.

How stupid and selfish are some people!!

We used to live next to a school and yes, it is noisy. When they walk to school in the morning the kids aren't too bad but after school most are wide awake and letting people know. But it is finished by 4pm and the rest of the day is just normal noise.

Playtimes are only 15 minutes twice a day and a lunch break of maybe 45 minutes, and if locals can't deal with that then I hope they haven't got any kids of their own!

if it wasn't for those pesky kids

Yes - it was Mr Jones the caretaker behind it all....

    mumbojumbo

Nah. The houses are 1930s in style and the school is modern.

I'm sure not many of the occupants have been there since the thirties. Even if they were there before the school I bet many of the "neighbours" saw the school as an asset and sent their kids to the school but now their kids are grown-up.....the schools just a nuisance

To you maybe, but for others children screaming and shouting at the top of their voices is not a pleasure.

lol, you're right idiots need not have to endure this and schools should ban outside breaks, and fail the Healthy Schools Program, be deprived of outside activity, etc

I think you misunderstood what i was saying.

Summary of the discussion so far:
    S: children playing is joyous
    D: maybe to you S
A: D said children should be deprived of breaks when in school

    A's statement doesn't really fit.

thats the whole point of the thread, it doesn't fit in with school life to be threatened with a noise abatement order..................................................because of OUTSIDE break times.

was way ahead of you already

    Amazin' !!

Reminds me of a golf club that I used to be a member of, Some people bought a house by the 1st green and complained that they were getting golf balls in their garden (the GC had been there for 60 yrs by this time!), the green was moved further away from their boundary (it was already some distance away) at a cost of £30,000!!

Yep, you've guessed it, the people sold their house and moved within 2 years

    Sigh

But in all fairness, moving near a school (assume IT was there before the residents) you should expect all the noise. If its a new school, the residents had there chance to voice concerns over such issues before. Same with traffic at school times. Just like is you move near a ...

Bar,Pub,club, late night take away, stadium, car park, petrol station, emergency service etc etc.

Common sense VS suborn nature with ignorance

Common break down of most stories like this lately it seems.

Sorry will have to give up on this one. Don't know what is going on. My initial comment was in regards to what slamdunkin said about the sound of children playing being joyous. It had nothing to do with the council's decision to ban breaktime. I don't know why you think my statement implied that it did or why you thought i was endorsing such ludicrous action.

    Sorry to have troubled you.
