    Who's your favourite comedian?

    Banned
Sort of following on from people saying Comic Relief wasn't funny, and partly due to me watching a program on Tommy Copper, just wondered what people's favourites were?
By comedian, I mean someone who can stand on stage and make people laugh rather than someone who is just funny in a sitcom or whatever.

For me all time favourite has to be Tommy Copper. He just had to walk on stage and people would fall over laughing.
Morcambe and Wise were excellent too, although they lacked something Copper had.

A little more recently Ben Elton and Rik Mayall were very good (back in the 80's when they were still funny), and Eddie Murphy was ok live too (although much better in films!)

I can't really think of anyone over the past 10-15 years or so who I can say I thought were very good on stage.

    What do others think?

PS I think Tommy Cooper was an absolute genius.......so sad the he was taken away in his prime....and les dawson...someone who can play a piano so bad, to sound good is a star.

Didn't like Tommy Cooper when I was younger, I've grown to appreciate his brilliance with age.

    And Lee Mack.

A comedian for me is someone who is just naturally funny without the material - e.g on the spot

The best id say for that is probably either gervais or ross noble - but noble wins it for being the maddest

Although do think lee mack is probably the cleverest and quick witted - so out of those 3 couldnt pick - oh a sean lock but hes a bit hit and miss

Glad no-one said harry hill as outside of his tv burp his stand up is appauling

Lee Mack, Sean Lock, Marcus Brigstocke, Stewart Francis, Omid Djalili . . . the list goes on!

    Billy Connolly and John Bishop

Billy Connolly for me & Al Murry can be funny at times, but the BIG man is class in a jar & would bring a tear too a glass eye.

    Lee Evans

Alan Carr & Keith Lemon from Celebrity Juice & Bo Selecta have me in stitches. Years ago my favourite comedian was an Australian guy called Bob Downe - just loved him and saw him live loads of times

Because it's unnatural behaviour that intrigues me. I also try to work out why people watch The X Factor (some kind of vicarious thrill of 'loser plucked from obscurity' combined with enjoying having their biases reconfirmed).

Partly because I have a vested interest and partly because human behaviour interests me. Maybe this is part of the reason why you enjoy more simple comedians. Don't take that as an insult because it isn't one. The silly voice of Keith Lemon and predictability of Alan Carr must have an appeal to someone after all.
