Why are Chocolate Labrador puppies sooooo exspensive????

I've been searching everywhere for a Chocolate Lab puppy, It seems in order to get a good quality KC registered pup you have to be willing to pay between £500-£700

For some reason Chocolate labs seems to be more pricier than Black and Golden!

    Not fair

Would love one, but as lovely as they are, and what great pets they would make, I couldn't justify spending that much on one sadly

Not a pup but there was a chocolate lab or retreiver up for rehoming at a rehoming centre in North London

As much as I would love to give a home to deserving kennel dog, I really have my heart set on having a pup. I don't want to miss out on the early stages of raising a puppy, as it would be my first pet. However I would defo consider a rehome in the future

Our staffie is over 12 now.. I need a new doggy x

Our staffie used to be so playful... if you ran down to the other side of the park and hide she'd come bounding up and knock you down... standing up she could put her paws on my shoulders as im 5 ft

she can hardly walk around the park now.

Get a cat, my little darling cost me £50, well worth it, he's lovely

The only thing with Cats is everything is on "their" terms. Where as dogs are up for playing 24/7. Plus cats love to do their own thing. I would prefer having a dog as would hate missing out on the whole "walkies" thing :-D

Awwww bless. They are beautiful and lovely dogs. I see so many staffs for sale, even so many at my local RSPCA :-(. They very playful by nature, not alot of people can handle staffs so they end up being rehomed!

Stuff that for a game of chess:)My cat is a sweetheart, it works quite well, he does his own thing and lets me pick him up whenever I like for a cuddle, jeepers, if only I could find a man like that, lol

LOLOLOLOL... you make me laugh! I understand totally where your coming from. I guess the poo thing is no different to having to wipe a childs butt, however with a dog you'll be doing it for a lifetime! My mate has a lovely cat btw, she is a sweetheart and loves cuddles and everything. Finding a cat like that is one in a million

i find the chocolate bunny reasonably priced:thumbsup:

ROFL!!!! Not quite my idea of a pet

the price reflects the fact that they cant be deliberately bred-they are a chance happening when labs breed. If you mated a male and female chocolate lab you would get a litter of black or yellow ones.

The chocolate is an impossible to engineer-its a "freak" if you like.

oh,and btw-there is no such thing as a "golden" labrador-this word only applies to retrievers.

I have noticed that Labradors can have completely mixed litters. However how do actual Chocolate Labrador Breeders guarantee a Chocolate litter? There are quite a few out there. How would that work?:?

you cant guarantee chocolates-its a genetic thing-you can mate 2 black ones and get a yellow litter-or a mixture.

I believe white and yellow are the only 2 descriptions the kennel club allow-I know what you mean by "golden"-some labs are very dark in colouring but the kennel club only allow the word to describe retrievers.

So while there are plenty labs you would describe as "golden"-they are yellow officially.

I understand that, but I have stumbled across actual Chocolate Lab breeders that breed choc labs. I'm just abit baffled about how they keep continually being able to breed just chocolates??? :?

The colour can be determined by "throwbacks"-to previous generations,so the best chance of all chocolates is to have a dog whose father/grandfather and great grandfather were chocolate. BUT,even that does not guarantee chocolates-even people who specialise in chocolates will get some yellow and black ones occasionally.

We mated our black lab with another black lab and got a mixed litter, and the last yellow in their history was 9 generations ago!

its all down to the lineage which is where the prices come into play really.
