How is it done, does your computer have to have wireless built in? I have a linksys wireless adapter and whenever i bridge the connections, it doesen't work and plus it messes up my internet settings on the computer as i can't receive internet on it then.

yeah, I'm using my desktop now.

Go to network connections then find your wirless connection right click> properties > advanced> tick the box allow other devices to share this connection. Run the cable from your PCs ethernet to xbox.

i meant i regularly share my connection with the 360 both for streaming from my laptop and desktop as well as xbox live

do you have a router? or are you trying to share a usb modem connection?

"An error occurred...internet sharing cannot be enabled. A lan connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing."

This is for when i tried sharing it, Paddy.

Yeah I have a router m8, its not through usb modem.

sounds like ]this is happening.

well if you have a wireless router then you don't need to use ics. ics is only used for sharing a modem type connection around a network. which is what the router does natively.

you simply plug the 360 into the router and setup the gateway details etc and you'regood to go

But there trying to share the desktops internet connection with the 360, the 360 isn't wireless as standard

and that is the problem. he shouldn't be trying to share the desktops connection. he should be simply using the router. thats what its designed for. ICS is only used to share or "route" an internet connection around a network. but if you have a router then you have no need for ICS. you would simply run an ethernet cable from the 360 to the router and configure the 360 to use the router as the gateway. you would turn off ICS on the desktop and/or laptop and run the network setup wizard and tell it that you are connected directly to the internet through a hub ( the bottom option followed by the top option in the wizard) then all devices are directly connected to the net (via the router) and it doesn't matter what the desktop or laptop are doing (or even if they're even turned on) the 360 will connect to live and the net through the router. if you have one of the older routers that have only one ethernet port then simply buy a switch (about a tenner) to increase the number of ports available

desktop needs a wireless card. Thought you wanted to do it via ethernet? :?

same here
unless he's actually trying to use both a router and a wireless link.
in which case either go wireless on the 360 or use a switch to connect the pc , 360 and the access point to the router.

May I ask why you don't just plug the 360 straight into the router?

As long as you have a spare Ethernet port on the router I would think it would be fairly simple process.

if it's internet sharing, then I'm guessing maybe you're laptop is connected to a router wirelessly and then you're connecting the 360 the the lan port for access to the internet, and the desktop has two lan ports, one connected to your router and the other you've tried plugging the 360 into but it hasn't worked. it could be that the second adaptor on the desktop isn't even enabled in BIOS, or that the driver's aren't installed, or if that is ok then you might need to "bridge" the two network adaptors on your desktop together, to do that just select them both in network connections and right click and choose bridge.

if it's a case of trying to access media and you just cannot connect the 360 to the desktop at all, then it may be that you're using an ethernet patch lead instead of a crossover cable, and that the lan port on your laptop is "autosensing" and so forgiving enough to still allow a connection, but that the desktop isn't. in which case get the right type of lead.
