Why can't I access certain websites

    Banned
    This is really annoying

    On Virgin (cable)

If I plug my router in, every website works fine

However if I'm connected directly to my modem, most sites are fine, except certain ones.

    Any gov.uk site times out
    halifax.co.uk times out

    When I ping halifax

    ok, another question,

your access to the router is wired? or wireless?

    Original Poster Banned

access to the router is wired

    Doesn't work
    cable modem ----------- pc

    Does work

is it a wireless connection to the router ?

    Original Poster Banned

wired, but it works when connected through the router

this one has me a little baffled if i am honest...

    you can try this too

    from command prompt

    netsh winsock reset

but i am clutching at straws now.. i assume you are performing a modem reboot between switching between direct to pc and to router?

    Original Poster Banned

    ok, have done that thanks
need to reboot, and need to go to bed, will update in morning if its made a difference, many thanks for your help guys

leave your modem off over night, not sure if you meant this by reboot or not

I had been experiencing problems all week before last. I contacted Virgin on Tuesday they did a line test and they found a problem but they could not sort it out their end and was sending a technician out to check modem etc yesterday.

Tried it the next morning (Wednesday) and all worked great and now everything is working as normal again so i don' what happened there, and the technician did not turn up yesterday.

Just ring them up 0800 9535353 - Customer services & faults - ask to be put through to Cable modem support.
