Why do days, months, years go quicker as you get older?

I'm 33 and it's bloody frightening how time is going so fast. i'm positive time stood still when i was a wipper snapper.

Only ever do things that you loath and hate - it will make time pass much more slowly........

And wait till you have kids - then life goes really fast....

    Are you mad?

When you're young, events are "first times" and so our brain remembers these in much more detail (birthdays, christmas, going to school etc)... As you get older, you experience more and more things so very little becomes novel.

Having seen your pic, i can

It's also worth noting that many people believe that due to the way our brain works regarding "flight or flight", we forget things that aren't critical (eg we remember not to step in front of a car but we don't remember what we had for dinner last Wednesday). This is the same way as animals work - the majority of animals have small brains so they cut out any information that isn't relevant to their survival.

    Time and Space...its all relative...oO

Time does not go quicker, your perception of time changes.

Everyones perception of time is different.

^^^^especially when it comes to sex

It does seem to fly by now.. Im 31 and I feel proper old, not to mention look it! I look back at pics when Id just had my son, now hes not far off juniors and Im just wondering where is the time going! I wouldnt mind going back a few years, thats for sure!

it goes quicker because you have more to do

thank god, some information I can use on the wife to stop her moaning at me for never listening to a word she says. Blah blah blah.

Some great explanations though, had someone tell me it was because when you are 10 you are experiencing 10% of your life, when you are 50 you are experiencing 50% of your life...I didn't get it. Explanations above make much more sense, cheers.

edit: thinking about it...how can we slow down our lives? by experiencing new things every day. Genius!

or that at 10 then 1 year is 10% of your life whereas at 50 its 2% (not 50% which is why it makes no sense to you!) Therefore at 10 a year feels 5 times longer to you than it will at 50.

    QUESTION?
If your allotted time (biblically) is three score years and 10 = 70years and years were money, HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD YOU HAVE LEFT?

    Banned

    its all relative perception

when you are 10 years old, another five years is 50% of your life so far

when you are 50. another five years is only 10% of your life so far

I remember school summer holidays were endless

now 6 weeks goes just like that!

yeah, time sure does seem to disappear

I like to remind myself of the phrase "Old age is a gift not everyone receives". Takes away the blues of getting older whenever I get melancholic

anyway, its friday and the suns out so happy days!

is also 33 and yeah seems like yesterday that it was xmas day.. all i remember is opening my presents, falling and banging my head and it's now may 6th ... strange !

    another site bug?

I saw something saying that it's to do with how your internal clock in your brain works. When your younger and count in your head to say a minute you will almost always count faster no matter how hard you try so time seems to take longer, but as we age the internal clock slows and when we count to a minute we will be slower so time seems to be going faster.

Seems like a reasonable explanation to me
