Why do people do that?

Little rant for today:

When you try to sell something on here, why do people insist on posting websites with better prices, or a comment like "Oh I bought this for 5pounds cheaper 3months ago when so and so had it on offer"?

It wouldn't bother me if they were actually intending to make an offer on the item for sale and are using the website link as a bargaining tool or something but practically 100% of the time it's just spoilers who then ruin the seller's chance of selling on here! (not particularly talking about my own items as I have hardly used the FS section, just something I repeatedly see).

Surely if someone is looking to buy something they can do their own homework?

I have been around here for a while and haven't seen anyone else complain, so is it just me that this behaviour gets to?

Not trying to start trouble just wanted to gauge peoples views.

Thoughts please!!!

I see nothing wrong with it. If its available new for a cheaper price than somebody is trying to shift it second hand then buyers should be made aware. Just my opinion, but one shared by many on here methinks. This site IS about getting the BEST price when buying after all.

Have you just tried to sell something for more than you can buy it elsewhere and didnt realise this website was called "hot uk deals"?

Just curious!

I think a for sale forum on a bargain site is always going to be a tough place to sell an item.

I don't have a problem with people posting a lower price as it shows the for sale price is probably too high and lets the seller see why their item probably isn't selling anyway.

Only like 1pound difference! I bought something for 20pounds, asked for 15 brand new unused and was told that Amazon cost 13.99 or something.

This was a while ago and wasn't a major deal, but I just see it on loads of threads.

I knew that the fact that it is a deals website would come into it but the FS section is separate and is for private sales, I just think that if you are not intending to buy then keep your nose out! That is my view, but i guess it's mine alone

sound like you are trying to start trouble to me....ban him, ban him :giggle:

seriously, its a deals website.....if the users dont see the sales as a deal they will say so

As a comunity the people on this board are helpful as a general rule. Personally I see no harm in folk looking out for other buyers. I would be hapypy to know that I was selling something "nd hand for more than can be bought new. If it was anoying me I'd probably resort back to ebay. You can flog just about anything there!!!

In this community forum, people help each other to get the best deal on things they buy. I dont think that view is just my own!!!

If I was going to buy something in the FS forum and later heard a member saying I could have bought the same thing new for less and they didnt tell me, I wouldn't be very impressed!

It depends, it annoys me when people offer stupid amounds say for a ps3 saying "oh this website had it on offer for £230 last month 2 for example(not true though)when it was either a misprice or very limited stock and been out of stock for weeks.

Ot they say something silly like "this item is £180 brand new therefore I offer £70 delivered by paypal and I expect it to be delievered next day) when even CEX give more than that, and if you disagree they will say "oh I thought you wanted to sell item I made a reasonable offer" and act like you have offended them when you say no

Mr? I think its just that along with that, people are also so quick to rubbish people's deal posts or comments in misc when there is just no need for it and not in a nice way.

When I first joined it wasn't anything like this - I don't know if it is more since the overhaul.
It's hard to explain in black and white, it's just the general feel, I guess - sometimes I think twice whether to post in case someone jumps on me and I just can't be bothered with all that.

I get what you are saying, but it's the way it's done sometimes - it's like it's a game and they are the winner, and the attitude, not like trying to be helpful, but kinda spiteful.

I wouldn't have a problem at all if it was like "this item is only 18.57 on Amazon so I would be willing to offer you 15.00" but it's not done like that it's just like "you can buy it here for 18.57."

Then I do think you have missed the point!

Personally, I dont really care less. Only ever posted twice in the FS forum. Once to sell (no replies) and once to another post that was trying to sell an item for more than double what you can buy it for. They said they werent prepared to go lower - and at that point I posted that they would probably be better trying on ebay. I thought that was being helpful - but repeatedly got accused later of "thread spoiling".

If I was selling an item and found out from someone it could be bought cheaper, I would have no problem with either taking my own advice or drop the price accordingly. Either way, I wouldn't take offence at being informed.

I guess we are all different!

BTW - the UltimoScorpion post you have taken umbridge with here - was very clearly marked as fun - but it might explain an awful lot!!!!!!!!!

Oh no no, didn't take offence at all, just not very good at explaining myself LOL! Tend to waffle on a bit, too!

I ain't taking this thread seriously just wondered if I felt differently than others? Guess I do!

Maybe I do take things too personally though, I do in real life!

I get what you're saying. When I joined I wrote my first post in capitals (not knowing what that meant) and it felt like I was being jumped on. Some comments are not put across politely. Unfortunately it is the few that spoil it for the rest.

I have since found that the majority on HUKD are friendly fellow bargain hunters that want to help others out if they can - even if that means letting you know that you are overpricing your item for sale.

Bargain hunters are great, but well said cassie, a handful make the rest look bad.
Keep up the good work all the genuine HUKD'ers!!

Theres overpricing then overpricing.

When say someone sells a used tv say for £250 which is still £400 used in shops thats ok, but say a website or local store had a sale on and got rid of old stock and sold them for say £275 someone would be like "oh they are £275 from this store) despite it say being an offer of the day and now back up to full price, or people use outdated links etc.

It states in the rules for the For Sale/Forum that you can do this, but you're only supposed to put the price and a link to the item, so unfortunately there isn't much room for pleasanties.

As others have said, this site is about saving money, so as long as the cheaper price is a current offer and in stock, I don't have a problem with it, even though I know it can be frustrating at times.

Ah, Ok - wasn't aware of this.

Still though, I think it should only be used as personal bargaining tool.
