Why does my internet get slower as the day goes on???

Im baffled!!! when i turn my home pc on in the morning it works fine. Its then left on but not used but when it gets to this time of day it chugs and quite often gets stuck. Im not technical but i think its to do with the amount of people online (im with Virgin & have noticed a slow down since it changed from Telewest).
Now you have to pay to get internet help so i am on the phone at the moment to the cancellation dept for some answers.

HELP PLEASE

I have given up shopping online it would be quicker to get on a bike and go get it lol

I actually find with virgin it slows right down in the evening. mine tends to run faster during the day.
Its a real pain you have to pay for tec help now anoys the hell outta me

I blame virgin, demand answers...and demand help..good luck! if no joy, then install a few gerbils/hamsters and keep them well fed!

Thanks, i called on the disconnnections line and when i was questioned pointed out that i was in the correct place as i will connect if its not recitified. Apparently it is because my modem is connected with a usb and not an ethernet cable (don't know how to spell it). They have credited my account by 5 pound so i can go and get one. We shall see!?!

prob after 3.30 when kids get home from school, all logging onto msn and you tube, but tis same for me virgin media is getting worse for speed

Sorry, but that's rubbish! A USB connection is good for up to 8meg I believe and wouldn't degrade throughout the day!

If you're on Virgin's non-cable service, it'll be a contention issue (too many users connected to the exchange) and unfortunately it'll only get worse, with VOD etc. Virgin's lovely traffic shaping policy won't be helping either!

To escape it, you'll need to move to another provider - however unless you move to a cable service or an ISP that uses LLU equipment, it's likely that your next ISP will have the same problems as they all use the BT adsl network.
