Why doesn't my thumbprint work only part of the time on the iPhone 7???

My iPhone 7 is doing the same thing. Thumbprint works about half the time and I have to go to Settings, delete thumbpring and put it in again. It lasts for about 3 tries!

My missus has the 6, and since the last update it's a pain to unlock, only works when it wants to? She doesn't though have to re register any prints, have you done the usual reset, install to see if that fixes it?

For IOS 10 ( latest software for iPhone ) you need to press the home button for the phone to unlock.

You can switch off this feature.

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button. You'll see the option Rest Finger to Open. Move the slider over so that it's green and your iPhone will open with simply a press, as it did before. This also works on iPad.

Thank you Sydney, but I already know all of that...it does work some of the time, then it stops working and I have to go back into Settings and put my thumbprint in all over again.

Cos it's **** . Any moisture it doesn't work , if it's a westerly wind , a full moon , etc etc ..it won't work . They make a waterproof phone but you can't unlock it with damp hands .. Class.

Well that's completely wrong. I just licked my finger and it still unlocked my phone. iOS 10.1

I know this may sound stupid, but do you work in an environment where your hands get really dry/coarse (e.g. Warehouse, retail, construction) as that can affect your fingers to an extent where they're not recognised by your phone.

You need to stop changing your thumbprint.
