Just finished my last jar (BBE 2006) , I had just started using it again in a stir fry recipe but now I can't find it anywhere , only online from specialist shops

It sat in my cupboard for 7/8 years , at the back behind the other spices then I found a recipe and it's suddenly been used up

You just have to use twice the amount

Just out of interest Op - what was the recipe?
I've used C5S in a few recipes without ever being impressed (maybe I'm not such a good cook X) ), but I've still got a jar of it and am up for trying a new recipe.

Are you using it as part of a marinade?
It certainly works best that way or as a rub.

Works best with fattier meat like duck or pork but can also be used with chicken. Loads of recipes online, Ive found it great for marinading tenderloin or belly of pork rashers for pork stir fry.

BBC tend to have good recipes, or look out for your favourite chefs' versions.

Lastly, if you are a serious cook, its well worth investing in a vacuum sealer for marinading, cooking in a water bath (a pan of water can suffice if you have something like a jam thermometer to watch the temperature carefully) and for freezing food in portions.

HTH and enjoy!

It is a chicken stir fry with noodles , The Times 19th jan . really tatsy

2 chicken breasts, diced
3 tsp cornflour
2 tsp five spice
1 red chilli, sliced
2 garlic cloves, chopped
5cm piece root ginger,
peeled and chopped
Juice 1 lime
200g broccoli, florets separated
1 red pepper, sliced
2 handfuls sugar-snap peas
4 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp runny honey
400g fresh egg noodles
1 Dust chicken in cornflour and five spice. Heat glug of cooking oil in wok. Once hot, add chicken, chilli, garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 4 minutes until chicken is cooked. Squeeze over lime juice and set mixture aside.
2 Add more oil to wok and stir-fry vegetables for 4 minutes.
3 Add rice wine or sherry, soy sauce, honey and noodles,
plus reserved chicken and chilli mixture. Warm through. Serve.

I bought Schwartz Chinese Five Spice from Sainsbury's a couple of months ago. I had to look for ages though, it's not with the spices! It's with all the "perfect shake" meat rubs and BBQ seasonings in the purple topped pots.
