Why is my microsoft outlook so slow?

Hi
For the last few weeks i seem to have to wait ages for any new emails to download. This morning it was about 5 mins for 3 simple emails.
I always archive emails when it suggests.
My internet seems to be running fine.
I regularly clean registry, defrag etc.
I have also recently taken programs off the computer to make more space as it was getting full up.
As anyone any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

women and technology eh?

Are you talking full Outlook or Outlook Express?
Are other applications running slower as well or is it only Outlook?

what happened to gold old fashion tongue in cheek comments, not being taken so litterally - while you may believe it was just a troll comment it actually provided a well needed bump as it was just about to drop off the front page, probably never to be answered.

It's ok, I don't want any gratitude, just another one of my good deeds :whistling:

love you spod x

I'd just reboot the computer to see if it is still happening. Sometimes programs get "stuck" and need a complete close down. Restarting usually solves the issue.

its full outlook. nothing else seems too slow and its been happening for about 3 weeks so has been restarted etc numerous times.

You would be better off using

Wait for it

Outlook EXPRESS............boom boom

get it....EXPRESS...because express means quicker

No !!!

TAXI...I'll get my coat

1. How much hard disk space do you have left?
2. How big is your Outlook .pst file (you may have to do a search for *.pst including hidden files)
3. What version of Outlook do you use?
4. What anti-virus software do you use?
5. What version of Windows do you use?
6. How much RAM do you have on your PC?

That should help us get started!

I got an infraction for making an inane (tongue in cheek) comment, it's the mods term for trolling

the comment on my location says it all doesnt it?

you WILL only post an answer to the OP and stay on topic AT ALL TIMES, humor is NOT allowed... yada yada yada.

Again highlights discrepancies with the policing of this MISC section.

Nothing wrong with a tongue in cheek comment but if left by itself it does seem like trolling.

Goofey's Girl - are you using a lot of Outlook's other functionality or only the email facility? If you are only using it for email I'd recommend you try Thunderbird, which I generally find to be faster than Outlook.

By the way, what version of Outlook is it?
(If you aren't sure go to the menu and select Help -> About Microsoft Outlook.)

sounds like OP is having problems with her ISP's email protocol rather than Outlook itself

Spam Assassin and McAfee anti-Spam add-in for Outlook 2007 slows it down to a crawl while it checks each e-mail. McAfee Anti-Spam seems to be fighting Spam Assassin for who gets first dibs at alerting me of spam. Running the two is very effective at catching all the spam but it isn't quick.

Thanks guys for so many comments

i have rebooted and defraged this afternoon as well as cleaning disc (whatever that is)
Also removeda few more useless programs.
I noticed as well as outlook i also have outlook express on this computer. i had never even noticed it before so i am going to try that tomorrow and see how it goes.

If i am still struggling i will post again.

Thanks for all your help. Really appreciated.
