Yeah they spruced it up a bit. The all-stars version was the first one I played, when I was but a boy.

Is there not an option to play the original version?

Oh, and congrats on your thousandth thread on the same subject.

No, there's no option to play the original NES versions - I don't think Lost Levels was even ever released outside of Japan. I preferred the spruced up All stars versions as they kept the original style and look but made the games a lot more appealing particularly having a savefeature.

So why bemoan the fact that the MD version doesn't have a save function when the 360 version - which you say you have - does???? :?

What..... I'm not really bothered.... lol

WTH am I ranting on about..

Just waiting for my SNES leads to arrive.

(I'm currently using a combination of a Creative 9V 850ma plug with the wires at the end shown, the laws of physics, gravity and a Gamecube AV lead to get the thing working properly..)

I actually have more games for my SNES than my N64... (I have Super Mario All Stars and Super Game Boy)

You basically answered most of your own question Tim.

It was just given the Super Mario World(SNES) makeover. Super Mario All-stars was released in '93 - nearly 10 years since Super Mario Bros. was released initially in Japan on the Famicon/NES.

Early-mid 80's graphics looked badly dated by the early 90's SNES/Megadrive era, the graphical coat of paint, the advanced save feature and also the subsequent glitch fixes were a splendid addition to the series in it's day, also served as a good promotional aspect to market the game/SNES console with aswell.

The interest towards the retro gaming market was nothing like it is now, what with 8-bit graphics and sound looked upon with a healthy dose of nostalgia in the modern day etc etc. It made good sense in '93 to do what they did with the 4 remixed Mario games featured within it. Never owned it personally but wish I had
