WiFi speed on my phone

Posted 8th Jun 2023
When I check the WiFi speed on my phone at home it can be low. If I turn the WiFi off on the phone and back on, the speed increases dramatically.

Is this normal or is there an issue with my Samsung A51 phone?

Thanks

Perhaps it changes channel on reset

Could be swapping between 2.4ghz and 5ghz, or connecting to a different access point if you have more than one, or have connected to an open wifi network instead of your own if it is set to connect to open wifi APs.

Maybe try the Wifiman app by Ubiquiti to work out what's happening, its a excellent wifi app by a trusted manufacturer. play.google.com/sto…=US (edited)

Forget the network and reconnect with the password again.

I'll try that but I'm sure I've done that before. Thank you

My 5G is pants most places, it does the job but not the fastest in 2023

5g isn't great, best to go back to 4g, save battery same speeds, more coverage.

You use quite a lot of data doing a speed test

    Irrelevant on home unlimited Internet

So the act of turning off the WiFi and then turning it back on sorts the issue.

I have a Galaxy A50 and experience the same thing, switching WiFi off and on, increases speed for a few minutes then drops. As suggested above, I think it's to do with 2.4ghz vs 5ghz. All other devices are OK, but my Samsung doesn't seem to like connecting to 5ghz.
