Wii U Gamepad Charger

Found 12th Aug
Hi, my official one has a slight tear in the outer cable. Given I have a little one, I'd rather replace it incase he decides to fiddle with it.

There's loads on eBay for £5, unofficial ones. Are these safe to use or is it advisable not to?

Thanks

There’s a genuine one. I think a cheap one will work but won’t last as long.

Geez, I didn't realise they'd be so expensive!
Could you buy one from CEX, I think my son bought a entire console with leads for £12.

Actually scrub that, I've just asked him and his is a Wii not a Wii U.

Good spot but I had a look around and according to Nintendo, that's not an official one
I just use a USB cable with a decent USB charger, I got a 3m one so it works well for me as you can use it whilst charging.

The official charger is 4.75v and USB is 5v but as its within 5% it will probably be fine. Its 1.6A on the official so if you use less it'll take longer to charge (I use a 2A as it'll only take what it should so 1.6A anyway).

Odd. I thought I saw a black power adapter when I clicked the link.
Now I don't now whether genuine or fake. Based on the price and the pictured grey power adapter, it may be genuine
I’d ask the seller to show you the Nintendo branding on the item. Id be dubious. I think now the best you will get is a second hand one, as Nintendo don’t support the wii u anymore

So I can just use a phone charger power block and get a usb cable and charge it from the mains that way?

Yeah that's what I do, the cable was under £1.50 for a 3m one from China (can pay a bit more from the UK) and works great. Obviously use with a reliable/decent USB charger not some random generic junk, same as you'd do with a phone really.

But don't the cheap USB cables charge incredibly slowly?
Wouldn’t believe it’s genuine however genuine ones are hard to come by now.

It's not genuine. That's what I said in the initial post lol

I said that because the safety of non genuine ones sold on eBay can be any level. labels can be stuck on but don’t mean they are correct, particularly if made in China. All chargers from eBay are at your own risk unfortunately.

Also you can get third party chargers from makes such as Game, that would be ok and Nintendo etc would know about. The Chinese ones do not fall into that category.

Hi, this looks pretty good quality, but I'm aware of third party chargers.

Look ok and safe to everyone? Thanks
