Wii & VC Games Transferrable?

Banned
Before I begin buying games from the eshop, I just wanted to confirm something please.

Whatever I buy from the eshop will be locked to the console I purchase them on? i.e. if my Wii breaks, as it's not under warranty now, am I stuffed?! I can't re-download them on a replacement console?

Thanks

You can't transfer VC downloads between consoles unfortunately, though if your console develops a fault and you need to buy a replacement, I gather that if you contact Nintendo they're often willing to facilitate you transferring the purchases (and ability to download without paying again) to the replacement console.

I'd note that you can transfer games from a Wii to a Wii U, as a one-time process (this wipes them from the source Wii).

If you choose to download the games from the eshop to the sd card, can you then format the system and the games remain?

If only it were so easy! Unfortunately not. If that was possible, piracy of the games would be extremely easy.

Seems a bit pointless having an SD card then unless you plan on spending £££ on the eshop. I doubt I'll be buying much from the eshop then - you lose everything if your console breaks.

Nintendo very helpful, i had problem with mk8 download free game, they could see from my Nintendo account what i had and help sort me it all out.

The point of the SD card functionality is as a storage expansion (given the lack of internal hard drive) rather than transferability of the games.

You can also copy & transfer save files between consoles using the SD card. The SD card is also required to do the Wii to Wii U system transfer.
