Will Currys store match Dixons online price?

Hi All - first post, so please be gentle!!

I have been looking for a new TV for my father-in-law

Found this on on the Currys site
LG 32LC46 - looks like a good TV - £499.00

Dixons online price is £409.98 though for the same TV.

Was hoping to get it for him today - so ordering from Dixons isn't practical really.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

Tony

Dont know if currys will match dixon online price, but i have just brought lcd tv from dixon on line. There is a 5% discount on products over £400. At the check out screen enter the code gimme5 in the box then click update. The screen will refresh with price discounted by 5% .

Generally, they wont price match instore, but in my experience and from both sides of the fence, if you get the right person instore they might give you a pretty good deal.

Try looking for someone with a bit of experience, but not the management team (so they feel confident doing a deal without supervision) and make sure they have good stocks. There's probably not too much profit in it at that price so be prepared to compromise, but I would expect to be able to get at east 10% off (so £450 easily).

Oh and be polite - its the day before xmas eve, so they're going to be busy, stressed and not really want to deal with pushy Dom style tactics.

Also if you order it through quidco on reserve and collect, they are currently offering 5%, so straight away, thats another £20-25 saved.

went into mansfield store about 2 months ago and they price matched samsung 40" full hd lcd as long as i took out a extended warranty saved £250 on instore price

thats the kicker - taking out the extended warranty. Thats alot more profitable for the store in many cases.

Another sweetener if you're looking for big discounts/pricematches is to take the Whatever Happens on a monthly basis. The salesman will love you, because this is the most profitable form of cover for them and its tracked on their weekly and monthly sales stats, but then cancel it after a few month and after you've got your discount

I've tried before, the salesman was pretty cluless and didn't know what to say when I asked if they would price match for my new LG TV. Seems a bit crazy as they are effectively the same company.

Tried this myself last week on a DVD Recorder which was £80 cheaper at Dixions. Salesman would not have it claiming it was not the same store and they would not price match at the store. Suggested I go away and order from Dixons online!

Salesman would not have it claiming it was not the same store

Typical staff that this useless company employ, not even knowing that Currys and Dixons are owned by the same people.
