Will nvme for storage make any difference compared to m2?

Purchased mx300 this morning with the idea of editing videos on the ssd for a performance boost?

But wondering should i buy nvme for the os + apps? and then just a hard drive to read and write the videos to?

You're mixing different level of technology there. M.2 is a form factor that can connect SATA and PCI-E devices. All the SATA devices use the AHCI protocol and the PCI-E devices can use either AHCI or NVMe.

2.5" SSDs also use SATA signalling and the AHCI protocol.

There's a wide variety of devices operating at different speeds for all combinations.

Assuming you're talking about a drive such as an SM961 then you won't see any performance difference from the OS and the vast majority of apps.

I'm not entirely sure about the video editing. Some high end video editing setups use some pretty fast disks. If you are doing high end stuff then you'd have to ask in a specialist forum.

Generally though it's only stuff like database servers and other things that are almost all disk use that benefit.

There will be a difference just not very noticeable watch some reviews as certain drives deal with large files better than others
