Will resetting computer clean the HDD?

Found 6th Feb 2011
I want to reset my computer back to the factory settings. I know it will remove all my applications, etc but will it also remove all my Music, videos, etc from my hard drive? And will my iTunes library remain the same?

Sorry if I sound a bit stupid...

Most probably, yes. If you have your hard drive partitioned though and have a D: drive then you can copy all the files you want to keep onto that partion. When you factory reset a PC it only formats the C: drive. Once this has been done you can move all your files back. If you haven't got a partitioned hard drive there is plenty of free software that will do this easily.

Will any files in My Documents be deleted?

without backing up any of your files, then yes everything that you had stored will be gone baby gone.

everything in your documents will be deleted. I know because I did my laptop a few hours ago

You'll probably find you will still have programs on there. If you're using a disc that the PC came with then you'll basically have the machine back like it was when you bought it. Mine came with works, nero You'll loose all your documents, music... videos...

yes.. all of it.

everything will go, including your operating system, which will have to be reloaded....takes forever. if you want to do it backup your files you want to keep onto a usb stick or external hard drive or partition. Then you can get them back after. I have a good clean copy of my drive on norton ghost now so only takes me 10 mins to go back to it when my pc messes up.

If it's a pretty recent pc then there's a good chance his HD will be particitioned so he can recover from hard drive and not loose the operating system.

Factory restore... i.e. the way your computer was when it left the factory and before you even got your hands on it ;-)

EVERYTHING WILL BE GONE

If you want to keep anything, back it up to DVD or external hard drive.

Just to say that if you where to wipe the HDD but it had very important info on it, then if selling the PC with the HDD then I would destroy the HDD as info can be collected again if you have the right tools.
