Royal Mail has released a set of ancient Britain stamps. The eight stamps feature some of the most inspiring objects and atmospheric sites of British prehistory.
The stamps explore how people lived in prehistoric times and depict famous iconic sites as well as some of the most exceptional artefacts from around the UK.
Featured on the stamps are: the Battersea Shield; the Star Carr headdress; Skara Brae village, Grime’s Graves flint mines; Avebury stone circles; the Mold Cape; the Drumbest horns and Maiden Castle hill fort.
The stamps present a timeline of prehistory, from an ancient ritual of 11,000 years ago to the Iron Age of around 300 BC. They provide a glimpse into everyday life, while also showing how skilled people were at building and metalwork.
