    wind up radio

Does anyone know of a good windup radio at a good price... there seem to be 100's out there but how good are they?
If you have one and it works well please let me know the details...

    dead right but no radio's!

They tend to be overpriced and underspec for what they are.

I have a cheap digital display one I take camping, and run it from a solar charger (which charges 4 x AA too). Two AAs keep it running constantly for about 48 hours. So not wind up - but a viable alternative and for the charger, radio, and 4 x AA rechargeables it was under £22.

The radio was a cheap Lidl one. They are about £7 now and I saw they had some in the branch I was in tonight (although mine was a £5 over two years ago - but its one they do often and it pretty similar. They take 2x AA batteries.

The solar charger was from Maplin. The still do similar ones and they are now about £12. The chargers are not great as they don't have individual charging circuits for each battery - and also there is nothing to stop the charging process when the batteries are full - but as its from sunlight its a really slow charging rate (2 days for 4 D cells - although on a sunny day 4 AAs will charge in an afternoon.

Just for your info, I found a solar, windup, battery powered radio in Robert Dyas for £14.99, seems to work fine and like yours it runs off solar power in sunshine...
