anyone know what is going on with my windows 10 pro?

last night an update took ages, went to bed and left it, this morning at desktop and working.

now ccleaner says 22gb of data could be freed up, it's now cleaning up old windows installations?
pc is 4yrs old, 8gb ram, I run ccleaner, spybot, spyware blaster and power defragmentor regularly but lately sluggish and not enjoyable.

my view on windows is like a tradesman who lays out all his tools he owns then he is asked to hammer in a nail!

btw I have latest Ubuntu on dual boot and thinking about defaulting to that, smartphones will take over, windows days are numbered!

thx in advance.

Sounds like it might have been the anniversary update

I used to use the tools you use and tbh it never seemed to make a difference, but used the windows 10 refresh option last month as my comp was slow and glitchy and it worked a treat, give it a go....

And agree with bloooo, sounds like the anniversary update

Anniversary update is a bit like using daily builds, it's a bit hit and miss. Had a lot of issues with cortana either not working or just hogging resources.

I stopped Cortana through the registry, plenty of guides and system is running a bit better

Wipe pc and run Linux mint.. Dual boot with windows and Linux would probably be your best bet however after getting a virus I wiped Windows and just run mint. Dose everything I need and more. I'm not a tech guy but its easy enough. Never looked back.

To expand on that Microsoft creates a backed of your windows folder and names it windows.old before installing a major update so you can roll back if needed. IIRC it's deleted automatically within 30 days.

This is just another case of CCleaner's usual behaviour, flagging stuff as 'junk' that might be useful to you and deleting it without ever explaining what it is.
