Windows 7 from 64 Bit to 32 Bit

Hey all, little issue going on here.

Just got my new Sony Vaio, I love it but its darn 64 bit windows and I need 32 bit for when its connected to works network so I can use the printers.

So, I am wondering, I have a upgrade version of windows 7, which has a 32 bit disc, can I try to use this and see if it takes the code on the Vaio? Or will this simply not work?

Any help appreciated with REP.

for your works printers you can often us generic HP postscript drivers. find a HP driver for your pc, (black and white try the 4050, colour try the 4500) and point that at your printer. most office grade printers can print postscript, so it doesnt really matter which driver you actually use but as long as it is the right version of post script.

both of these should (i cant say for certain) come with a standard install of windows 7

we use these drivers on around 500 printers which are actually epson, canon, kyocera, dell, hp, whatever printers with almost no problems

hope that helps

surely your works printer will have a 64 bit driver!

Nope lol.

i had a Dell PC that came with 32bit vista and just used a 64bit disc to install 64bit vista and just used the same COA that came with the PC no problems, i know that this isnt the same as using a upgrade disc if you can do a clean install i dont see why you have to stick with 64bit,

This is what I wanted to know really. I think my upgrade disc will do the trick. Just using the same COA that came with the laptop.

I really love the new vaio so it would be a shame to send it back over this !

if the disk is the supplied one with the laptop, then yes it should work.

however, if the upgrade disk has nothing to do with the laptop then I doubt the COA will work as its probably an OEM one from Sony

interestingly with the 64 bit releases of windows - printer drivers have been the biggest problem! for a large number of technical reasons.

What printer is it?

64-bit Vista drivers generally work with Win7 64-bit.

Hi, its the Canon LBP5000 Printer,

There are no 64 bit Vista drivers either. This is a right royal pain in the lol .

I managed to get 32 bit on, but the Nvidia GT 230M Graphics chip doesnt have 32 bit support as of yet. So im stuck with 64 bit.

I think I will just see how it goes, I can use another printer if needs be.

There's nothing else I can suggest apart from you could try XP mode if you have it?

I would email canon if I were you. They most probably have one ready to go or at least in beta stage
