Nope, you can install from the CD. But installing from 32bit/x86 you'll better off doing new install and format your drive.

Think 64bit through carefully. Your computer must support 64bit to start. Then check software!!!!!! Not all of the software is available for 64bit. Check what you use daily / often and look for a 64bit version before upgrading... I upgraded to 64bit and found little increase in speed or stability. Soon went back to x86.

If you want to go to 64bit without any possible problems you'll be better off going for the full retail. The retail Windows 7 packages will include 32-bit and 64-bit installation media. The product key can be used with either the 64-bit or 32-bit version.

It simply means you have to have a legitimate previous version of windows with COA on the PC you upgrade,

So you have to put in your key from a previous version of windows in the install or something or you have to provide when you buy it?

No Microsoft will already have a snaphot of your PCs compnents from when your PC was verified and when you install this and verify it they will already know that a previous OS was installed,

it will come with another keycode. the installation will find the old windows installation and upgrade it. you can opt for a clean install which will clear all of your data and install Windows 7 fresh.
