    Windows on a mac ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows about putting windows on a mac?
Santa got me a MacBook Pro for Xmas and i would like to play poker on it, trouble is the sites I play on can't be used on a mac operating system!! Says something about .exe files not supported.
    1. Can I put windows 7 onto my mac and if so is it a case of getting a special copy?
    2. If I put windows on my mac will I be able to download poker sites because I have a different operating system on it?
Will windows run anygood on a mac? Not sure if to try and do the above or just send it back for a refund and get a windows laptop!
    Thanks for any advice!

The thing is I use my laptop to mainly to play poker!
So I need a laptop I can multitable on and play the sites I usually play on and even though it's a lovely laptop its not really for me if I can't use it for what I want to!

You can install as a Virtual Machine (using something like Parallels or VMWare), or as a separate partition using Bootcamp. As a Virtual Machine, performance is less than with Bootcamp, but good enough for what you want to use it for, and you have the benefit of being able to drop in and out of Windows without needing to reboot the machine to do so.

boot camp is the easiest. takes about an hour i did it last week for a friend. very, very easy

    I use wine in Linuxhttp://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/

    Thanks for the link!
That looks good but I'm not great on computers (I can fudge my way through)
and it says about using he command line etc, would this be easy to use ?
It would be ideal if I could use it to run poker sites etc with it!
    Cheers

If your not sure, then just copy n paste. Follow the instructions as closely as possible. Otherwise, just use bootcamp, that is very very easy to do.

send it back mate- seems a lot of hassle- dont do the above otherwise you will void your mac warranty
then you will be truely stuffed

return it and get a win 7 machine- cheaper and less hassle- trust me

Why on Earth would you want to use Windows on a Mac.

There must be some reason you got a Mac?

It's like buying a bottle of fine wine but emptying it down the drain and filling it back up with 2 cans of Fosters

As my op I use my laptop to play poker on uk sites and the mac doesn't support these sites so I am seeing what my options are.
With regards to getting a mac my other half got it as a Xmas present which I knew nothing about, she did ask if it was ok for poker and they told her it's fine just like a pc.
Once again thanks for all the adivice etc.

DanJackson: putting bootcamp on means you get both the fine wine and the fosters. you can choose between either as often as you like

If you are running Windows 7, you don't even need Bootcamp. Windows 7 (and Vista, but not XP) will install on Intel Macs just fine without it. You can even delete OSX if you really don't want to bother with it. Just remember to insert the OSX install disk afterward to install the Windows Vista drivers (should work with Win 7 just fine) to control brightness, keyboard backlight, sound etc. Download the latest video drivers from nVidia rather than use the outdated ones that either Microsoft of Apple provides.

    Hi Beamo,
Thats exactly what i plan to do, went into apple store in regent street as was in london at the weekend and one of the blokes there talked me all through it as he has windows 7 through bootcamp, looks quite easy and as you say can choose what i want to use on when i bootup the machine, best of both worlds as i see it and i have a nice looking (depending on preference) and fast laptop to use them on!!
    Cheers
