Windows update killed my wifi connection.

    Hello,

Windows has decided to update itself on both of my laptops (same model) and now I can't get on the net with either of them. The yellow hazard symbol is over the wifi symbol. It works with the ethernet cable but the wireless is no go.

    Any ideas?

    Update wifi drivers ?

Is that the Wireless network adapter ? if so, it says it's up to date.

What software did you use to verify the driver software was upto date? I suggest downloading Slimdrivers by piriform. Free tool that will scan your system and find those outdated device drivers.

If that comes back clean, go to your device manager in Windows and uninstall your wireless card and let slim drivers scan again.

If windows update really did kill it, then you can always uninstall updates via add/remove prgrams - view installed updates.

Pretty sure uninstalling your wifi adapter from device manager and letting it reinstall from fresh will resolve your issue.

    Good luck

I had this same problem with an Acer laptop, and resetting the adapter didn't work I had to do a system restore to a date before the update and then turn of automatically install updates.

As per sowotsdis but if that didn't work - roll back the driver

Device manager - find device and right click Properties then click driver tab and click roll back

If neither work search for device driver on your respective manufacturers website and download and install

Did you solve the issue OP ?

    Try these:
    1. Go to device manager and disable the wifi, Then enable, Wait for it to establish connection.
    2. Uninstall driver then scan for hardware changes and it should reinstall the driver.

    Thanks for trying to help.

I'm still having difficulties trying to work things out. The model I am using is Toshiba Satellite Pro L830, the wireless network adapter says Qualcomm Atheros AR946X.

I've tried unistalling it and then installing it. I've disabled then enabled it. I've tried the troubleshoot problems. I've unistalled the last Windows update.

I'm now trying to find out if the driver is on the Toshiba UK website. Also, I can't roll back the driver because there is no update to roll it back too.

Why can't they make these things easy.

There was no option for me to roll back the driver but I did find an older version which fixed it.

    Good to hear

Just keep that working driver safe because no doubt Windows will try to update it again - on older versions you could ignore specific updates - not sure how you can do that on Win 10 OS
