spybot picked a few things but not this

this is why AVG free is bad.
when will people learn that its detection rate is rubbish and its only a very very basic protection.
i hope you get sorted out and move to using something better.

This sort of fakeware gets past alot of good anit-virus/anti-spyware programs , thats the way they've been designed .Once on your PC/Laptop they will play havoc with your OS , stopping lots of things from running , task manager and any exe's for instance . I've seen some hide Control Panel ,C:\ drive and you have no chance to install anything or take your data off . I had to fix a new Acer laptop running Vista the other week that had a Fake Anti-Virus program , it literaly took over the laptop .
Firstly , you have to run the machine in safemode and install , SuperAntiSpyWare or Malwarebytes .The ones I have sorted out are hidden files in hidden folders , so make all the folders visable . The Acer had a file on it called 10336723.exe in a hidden folder called 10336723 . If you dont delete this exe file , the whole thing restarts when you re-boot . If you cannot do it and dont want to lose any valuable data , take the HDD out of the PC/laptop and link it to another machine .I do this all the time using a IDE/SATA to usb gadget or just adding the drive as a slave to your host PC .This will enable you to just copy your files/photos/mp3 to a folder , after which you can scan the doner drive or format . At least you'll not have lost your data doing it this way .
I've noticed of late ,this fakeware is getting very common and can get onto your PC simply by visiting a infected website.
