Anyone want a woolworths career?

This bit made me laugh:

"How far and fast you will progress will be up to you. The only limit will be your ambition, determination and ability."

They forgot the fact that they probably won't be around when your first pay check is due!

Not common knowledge however I am lead to believe that they went into liquidation yesterday:w00t:

I had an interview there the other day. I didnt get the job though. The person who interviewed me's mum and a guy who had already worked there before got the job instead.

U.K. Woolworths’ largest shareholder is making a last-ditch attempt to stop a sale of the company’s retail arm to Hilco, a restructuring firm, for £1. Property tycoon Ardeshir Naghshineh, who met Woolworths’ lenders yesterday, said he is in negotiations with the retailer’s banks over an alternative to a deal with Hilco
Monday, 24 November 2008
Woolworths could fall into administration this week unless the chain is bought out by Hilco, sources have said, a development that could have disastrous consequences for supermarkets.

Over 30,000 jobs could be lost at the retailer if it fails to survive the economic downturn, while supermarkets' supplies could be threatened if EUK - Woolworths' distribution arm - goes into administration.

The outfit distributes CDs, DVDs and books to some of the biggest supermarkets, including Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Hilco is looking to purchase 800 Woolworths stores for the nominal fee of £1

Woolworths is at risk of going into administration as soon as this morning as it scrabbles to find sufficient funds to pay its monthly wage bill.

The retailer, whose chief executive, Steve Johnson, fears that he and the rest of its board will be forced to put Woolworths into adminstration themselves to avoid breaking the law by trading while insolvent, is trying to juggle its cash position to allow it to meet its payroll obligations on Friday.

It is understood that the retailer's finances are balanced on a knife edge as its till receipts have fallen and its suppliers have refused to trade with it..........

I feel sorry for people who have purchased vouchers and don't know whats happening to woolworths as they don't have computers or tv? (the older people as my nan sometimes buys us vouchers) have phoned and told everyone I know - just hoping everyone does the same

I heard that woolworth would not be opening on Monday ! as Sunday was there last day trading - last day of the month!
