Working Tax Credit - You may be entitled so claim it or lose it

    Banned
I posted this elsewhere but thought it deserves a mention in its own right.

Working Tax Credit is for people who are employed or self-employed (either on their own or in a partnership), who

    * usually work 16 hours or more a week
    * are paid for that work, and
    * expect to work for at least 4 weeks

    and who are

    * aged 16 or over and responsible for at least one child, or
    * aged 16 or over and disabled, or
    * aged 25 or over and usually work at least 30 hours a week

Check here to see if you qualify for a tax credit. Many people don't claim it despite being entitled!

That IS good advice bod emrys, coincidentally, I enquired on line yesterday and the results told me I was entitled to £9.75 a week. I then rang the office and after her summing up, I wasn't entitled to anything. I would have been embarrassed to claim that amount, but they advised me that if you were entitled to claim, it could lead to other claims on poll tax etc.

Yep - forgot about that. If you are entitled to any working tax credit, then you can possibly be entitled to council tax benefit, free cavity and loft insulation and even free central heating.

Yeh I've been on the phone about it to my parents now, they don't seem to care, idiots.

My Mum says some woman down council told us we not entitled to any tax credits of any kind.

My Dad quit work about 6 wks ago and cashed in some pension now. But he was getting just past minimum wage and my Mum was getting no income at all. I told her yrs back they should look into it but they not bother, saying you only get extra money if you got kids etc.

Looking at the link and putting in a rough sum of what I know he was getting paid, they entitled to something.

It was their loss then as any couple with one earner on minimum wage would have been entitled to a fair few bob. Can be backdated a maximum of 3 months so a bit late now.

I did the calc for a couple, one working on minimum wage and the sum they were entitled to was £3150 a year! I wonder if they'd care now if you told them what they had been missing.

Well I only know roughly what they they were getting and I worked it out to be about extra £2K a yr.

My Dad was constantly changing his hrs, some wks he would do a 80 hr wk, I guess they probably didn't want hassle of phoning up amd making changes to claim.

My parents are still having a lot of hassle since he left his job sorting things out, they said its all too much bother with everything.
i've been getting onto my Mum for yrs now about her claiming DLA and she won't claim.

I think if your entitled to something you should claim it,cos there a lot people claiming alsorts and never worked etc.
