Would Dream of Starting A Gaming Studio

Ok its my life long dream to run my own team of lads/ladies into making games i know have a long long way to go yet but was wondering how hard is it to find dedicated staff like coders, designers, producers etc etc its just if i was gonna get into the industry id need to start very small eg iphone apps or xbl/psn titles i mean is there anyone on here who has any experience in this field. Also id just like to clarify i wouldn't get into this industry for the money as i know how difficult it is to make it to that point it purely for well basically job satisfaction. the old expression springs to mind enjoy your job and you will never work a day in your life

You can place advertisements for the resources you require in publications such as "Edge" magazine ([ next-gen.biz ]).

Also, dedicated recruitment agencies exist that specialise in such resources.

Due to the current economic climate (across all industries/sectors), & the rise of piracy in the current video game generation systems, revenues for publishers & developers are decreasing to a point where some organisations are ceasing trading. Employees are being made redundant & as a consequence there are more people looking for positions at present than there are opportunities available for appointment.

I do not know how serious you are with looking at the possibilities now, but at this present time you will find prospective employees that would be willing to consider just being in work, rather than seeking their ideal salary.

Alternatively, if you have funding available you may consider appointing freelance/contract-based resources to provide the skills you need in the short-term.

Again, the specialised recruitment agencies & web sites such as LinkedIn.com will be able to provide you with a list of available resources.

Do you have (video game) software development experience?

Learn to code yourself and do it - do you really think you can pay people to develop games?

As a S/W developer myself I can tell you no-one is going to want to do it, the gaming industry is too crowded as it is.

Depending on the games you want to create will depend on the technologies you want to use - PC games are mostly C++, iPhone are Objective C (like Smalltalk), Symbian are ofcourse C++, and Android games are ofcourse Java (Dalvik VM).

Easiest to learn would probably be Android or Objective C. C++ ain't for the light hearted, need to be reasonably skilled to use that - but if you do it'll put you ahead of everyone else.
