    Would you be offended?

My postman has tourettes,in fact a very bad case of Tourettes and you can usually hear him coming along shouting varying obscene words, when he lifts a letterbox he always uses the same C word,I've got used to him now, good on him I say for having a job, many would use it as an excuse not to work, however today he had to knock the door for a recorded del item, whilst the door was open and my mother in law was here he shouted out very loudly the C word,my mother in law instantly took offence and told me I should report him to royal mail, whats the point? the guys only doing his job I mean it isnt his fault and the word wasnt aimed at me,I see where she is coming from I have little ones and they may pick up these words but i also see the poor posties situation, youve got to give him credit

    Would you be offended?

No, but are you sure he actually has Tourettes?

I don't have it myself, but I swear constantly when I'm in work!!!!

yes he is a well known guy around the area, you can see he has a big "tic" when he shouts the words too

I find the whole situation a little amusing, but you cant help but feel for the poor guy.

I think its more the older generation would take offence, especially to that word.

must admit it is hard not to laugh at times,he apologises profusely if he knows youve heard him saying one of the words but thats the thing theyre not said quietly theyre really shouted,my mother in law was very shocked, maybe its the older generation that have a problem understanding some people have problems

If I didn't know him and didn't know that he had tourettes then I would probably take offence but since he is your regular postie then I would understand that he can't help it and that there is no meaning to what he is saying, like you said, it isn't aimed at you. But I can see the problem with having young children about.
I agree with you though, good for him for having the job, it must be quite hard to get a job with his condition.

I'd love it! never miss recorded items.. my postie quietly posts the "sorry you were out" note so I miss it!

with a big "****" i'd always get post on time!

ps. its not his fault. it's like reporting you for blinking.

i wouldn't be offended, not at all. Better him being out there, than being embarrassed about his condition and hiding away

I went to go view a car in Altrincham once and went to petrol station on way home and there was a massive que and some old woman in there had tourettes, but it wasnt just single words - it was full sentances.

With so many people and knowing its socially unacceptable its almost impossible not to laugh although you try your best, I could see other peoples shoulders quivering trying to hold it in, but some young woman lost it and you could see the horror on this old womans face was enough to want to make you die, she literally walked out with tears in her eyes... felt so sorry for her.

Wouldn't matter if he was reported. If RM sacked him for it they would get in big trouble...
For me though I think it would put me in a better mood every morning

Just tell her its a medical condition and she should be ashamed of herself for discriminating.....that will shut her up!

Difficult one. I wouldn't be offended as such if I knew the situation but I would have to do something as I have small children and I wouldn't want them to hear this kind of language.

If he has tourettes then I wouldnt be offended because its totally involuntary. Would be a bit annoyed if I had kids around, but wouldnt blame him and definitely wouldnt report him. They will have taken a chance on hiring him, and could be looking for him to mess up. If they have customers complaining then they have grounds to get rid of him.

to be honest I think our local sorting office/post office dont really care about his condition as he is often answering the phone at the sorting office too,as you can imagine customers are often greeted with some colourful language upon him answering the phone.

I do agree the kids shouldnt be hearing it but then its a medical condition that he has no control over I bet he feels terrible when he swears in front of little ones

I very much doubt that......press would have a field day for one and its against the law as its a recognised medical condition...DISCRIMINATION BY ROYAL MAIL can see it now....
The Sun would have enough there for a fortnight

Hats off to this guy, tourettes is a terrible illness of which the sufferer has little or no control over whatsoever.
He should be commended for his attitude to work, not reported. Would your mother inlaw want him reported if he had cancer?

its awful....... bless the old lady... its so sad she left in tears.... but if i was there with my 4 year old he would pick up on it ..not that it would bother me he heard rude words (one off and al ) more for the fact that he would make a scene about her using rude words loudly and ask me why.....

i know its an illness bless her....

anyways back to ur postie...good for him for having a job and good for u guys to not be offended by him,......

you cant be offended if hes dead....jus sayin

They would be firing him because of customer complaints, couldnt blame them for that, no matter what the reason behind the complaints.

Not saying I agree with it though

no...can't be done....Discrimination, seriously they would get hammered in court for it....its a recognised condition therefore they couldn't do it if they wanted to there hands are tied

    Heres your mail c***t

Tell your Mother In Law to read this ]http//en…ome

It's obviously not good for the kids to hear that sort of language but try to explain it them the best you can.

Kids are often more understanding than you think, They have to learn the rights and wrongs for themselves, You can't protect kids from obscene language all the time. If the kids repeat the foul language let it be known that it is not acceptable and that if one person does it, It doesn't mean that it's right for another too.

Good on him for having a job!
I swear a lot at work and so do others, as long as it isn't used offensively I don't mind.

Try buying him some large gob stoppers. When he is sucking on them he will find it hard to swear.

he whistles and its awesome, sounds like birds in a woodland,I think its a way of trying to occupy himself into not shouting the words but I have NEVER heard anyone whistle like this guy can!

    Please tell me where...

I want a postman like that...

It would be hilarious to record the front door for YouTube...

Then to see the letterbox open, a letter shoot through with a 'C***'...

    That's brilliant...

But why do these people always use swear words to shout out , why not Hello?
I dont know much about tourettes but i guess we could all claim we got it and go around calling every1 a c***

I really dont know why its always swear words:?

good on the guy for not letting his disability get in the way of leading a normal life.

as for reporting him don't be daft as has already been said nothing will happen and nor should it. I wouldn't worry about your kids hearing this colourful language as they probably hear worse at school and if it really does bother you then explain to them what tourettes actually is etc

    slap your mother in law!:w00t:

It's not a choice or concious decision to use such words. It's called Coprolalia and only about 5 - 15% of people with Tourettes actually have the symptom.

When she's finished watch it yourself.....its hilarious! MUM YOU S**G!

Why do people with this `syndrome` only say swear words?! why not any other randon words... & as children with this so called children hadn`t learnt swear words, what would they say?
    APPLE, CHAIR, BANANA! :whistling:

I'd be more offended at your MIL's intolerance of a man working with a disability that can cause severe social phobia, especially when faced with the likes of your MIL.

Now that would be a treat if phonejacker rang that number, talk about turning the tables!!!

On a serious note It wouldnt bother me i'd rather our posting be shouting that word than acting like one by cocking his round up constantly!!!

At the end of the day its a medical condition and if your mother in law is offended by an illness then she is what the postie is describing!!

Wish he was my postie, think we'd get on quite well
