just been reading about colin hendrys wife - poor love has died after trying to correct botched surgery

dont know why women - more so than men - feel pressurised into getting anything done

have to admit i keep thinking of getting a few jabs of botox but then i start worrying if anything would go wrong - i would be doing it for me - nobody else

I think people who have surgery to "improve" their features tend to look a wee bit false. Not for me and I find it quite unattractive.

However, if the surgery is corrective, rather than cosmetic then that's a good thing.

Sad news about Denise Hendry.

i wouldnt i love the way i look, dnt mean tht ina bad way lol, i just wouldnt feel like me if i looked different u know??

shame about colin hendrys wife, colin was a legend

As luck would have it.......the black ferret is on a self imposed 5 day ban at the moment, but he would pay money for this thread-on this occasion I'm chucking the cat in there.....

Why have surgery in the first place? - unless you're trying to pull a man better looking than the one you met all them years ago...............grow old gracefully

wouldnt get in on my face or anything major done but if im honest i would have some of my scars removed if i could

xx

some people arent happy with how they look, if the surgery makes them feel better and live a happier life then its worth it, but there must be millions of these things done and only a small amount end bad like this so dnt be scared.

yeh but she has body disphormia (or however you spell it)
most people have surgery which greatly improves their looks. My eldest will be having plastic surgery on the NHS in a few years as the bungled up a op on her face and left her with a nasty scar (well if she wants it that is)
Im gladits their for those who need it

My point exactly - why pay money to look like something you clearly are not ?
Some women are born to be beautiful - well done to them.

The only example I can think of is Twiggy - so if you're not her - forget it !

reckon twiggy has had a tweak along the way though - only a little bit

it seems like everyone on tv gets something done -

i have definately put meself off - been looking a bad pics!!

fair dos to people who have it - like studentmummy daughter

hope all goes well hon -

People who are mentally insecure should not be allowed anywhere near the surgeons knife - JORDAN - take note, silly girl !

jordan is a nightmare totally!

Mentally insecure - she was far better looking before any of the surgery !

Oh, I could never change nothing major to my face/body
because that's what makes me what I am and without that I wouldn't be me

She was absolutely stunning 10 years ago,but because she was so unsure of herself she had to mess around with her features and has never stopped.

Girls - dont do it, if you're in love with a real man, he wont give a monkeys if you have a couple of wrinkles:thumbsup:

heres hoping anyways - most young men these days 25 and younger, seem to expect perfection though. Its weird, people just arent like that in real life!!!

i would def have surgery i too would love to and hope to have a tummy tuck after having my two huge babies, my first was 10lb 20z and my second 10lb 11oz so my tummy has been stretched to the max!!

I would do it, if I felt the need to.

However my OH accepts me just as I am ( pretty good thing too after 5 kids, two cesareans and numerous scars, stretch marks etc ).

I do wonder where we draw the line though... my teen daughter is having orthodontal braces etc. She has good healthy teeth, and the disalignment wasn't at all ugly in any way. But she's had 4 good healthy teeth removed and then braces for the past two years and proly another couple of years. When it's all over she'll have a proper "hollywood smile". Perfect teeth. Similarly, I have a couple of crowns.

Isn't cosmetic dentistry just the same kinda thing... it's for cosmetic reasons and yet we go through with it as it also has health implications long term.

The pics of MJ and the botox injections, face surgery etc are awful. How any doc can justify that sort of treatment is beyond me... it looks so unnatural and unhuman.

So.. I have fuzzy boundaries on this point.

I spose it comes down to making an informed choice. If that's what you want and you can find a doctor to do it and have the money to make it happen then you need to make a serious informed well-researched decision.

Certainly surgery for NEED rather than desire, such in the case of facial burns, cleft palate and other physical reasons should take priority.

Sometimes things happen in your life that really knock your confidence for six. I went to see a cosmetic surgeon as i wanted a face lift, he told me that i didnt need one and wouldnt do it, he recommended i have some fillers and botox and reffered me to a doctor..I had the fillers and the botox and ime really pleased with the results..But i wont rule a face lift out in the future..

omg hon, i had cesars with the 5lb ones, you poor baby x x

i think the shape of the tummy muscls changes slightly after having babies but i certainly dont think it's an ugly thing... just slightly more rounded than washboard.

you know why?

porn gives them unreasonable ideas of female bodies and behaviour. Easy for skin to appear without blemish when it's been through a lens.

I tell my son... dont you EVER treat a woman that way.

i would defo have a tummy tuck after having 3 big babies 9lbs15, 9lb 8 & 9lb 5 would have a boob job as well fingers crossed this time next year i can get my boob job done but cant have a tummy tuck yet as they advise you not to have anymore children

i'm considering a face peel but have seen some alternatives to a chemical one. Anyone had anything similar??

So judgmental - for years we've used technological and scientific advancements to alter our appearance or maintain a useful look.

If I felt later in life I'd like a nip here or a tuck there, I will. People have just brought up the worse abuses of such technology ignoring the invisible, responsible uses of such surgery.

I would suspect some of it is resentment because of the prohibitive cost for some.

Interesting question Holly. I certainly wouldn't have any type of cosmetic surgery (unless there actually was a need for reconstruction or a congenital deformity) and I have always thought it's too big a risk.

I understand very well that some people are prepared to take that risk sometimes because they have a distorted self-image or because they are trying to achieve a particular look, which is 'a la mode' currently.

I think it is tragic that a young woman should die as a consequence of liposuction. IMO the media bear a heavy responsibility for that with regards to the whole WAG/Celebrity culture.

I guess that not many people would think that they are gorgeous from top to toe, especially as they get older and have babies. It gladdens me that tinks and COM have described how their partners love them as they are.
I can say something that is similar - my surface is flawed but I know that I am loved and my hubby wouldn't want me to take any risks with my health.

I wouldn't, personally, criticise someone for having a cosmetic procedure but I would try to dissuade them.

Some people might think that's contradictory. Surely a congenital deformity doesn't need to be fixed if it doesn't impair on one's life so isn't that purely to conform to some idea of 'natural beauty'?

There are risks associated with many things in life and we do an awful lot as a species for purely cosmetic reasons. I think a lot of the thinking around cosmetic surgery is based on conscious or subconscious jealousy.

so true hun, its so unrealistic and unnatural, tbh, how many women actually look like that??

I think something should be done about the media etc before we have a generation who will never feel happy about the way they look. I dont particularly like my stomach after 2 pregnancies and c-sections but its just life and my babies mean more to me than my stretchmarks

My partner doesnt understand why i dislike my stomach and thats the way it should be in my opinion lol. I wouldnt be with someone who picked faults with my body... have you heard about the things that mark croft says to kerry katona?? Disgusting! :w00t:

like i said before, the scar on my daughters face/neck is quite bad and its left her smile a bit lopsided. She was offered surgery on it now but shes said she doesnt want another operation yet, so were leaving it until sometime when she feels she wants it. If she ever actually does....

Ho ho ho. That made me chuckle because I tend to think that the type of person who knows/cares what Kerry Katona's husband says to her is the real problem.

Not that the glorification of certain body types is anything new. You could go back to the time of cave drawings and see the same type of thing.

Banned

If you want the root of these problems, you can't just blame porn or 'lads mags'. The worst offender for telling women their too fat or too thin are publications like the Mail or Heat which have a mainly female readership.

Men's mags can be excused by being for facile idiots - there's something far more malevolent about the women's rags.

thats great  (not being sarky btw) i wasnt meaning to generalise its just I know a lot of men like that.

Seriously, a guy I know dumped a girl because she had excema (sp?) He told me to my face, I thought he was joking but nope, that was the only reason!
Another, has arguments with his wife all the time because 'shes let herself go'!!!! :w00t: She looks after 3 kids under 5 and she supposed to be what... a supermodel?!?!

Obviously, theres a difference between not washing and not putting a full face of make up on (hers was the latter) but i just cant stand shallowness.
