hi we bought x box live and have 8 months left on but the console is broke and the shop are giving me a refund. im now going to but the elite 360, can the live membership be transfered or do i loose the remaining time and then need to buy it again.

Yes it can be recovered....connect to the net with new console and recover live account...there is an option for it, jsut stick your name etc in and it will bring all your info back

The option is in Marketplace at the very bottom of the right hand side, saying Recover Gamertag


Also brings back all yor save points, achievements etc...takes a while though

As ODB said you can just recover your gamertag.

You can also use the DRM tool on the microsoft website to get back any content you have purchased on xbox live:

Easy enough as mentioned above, just needs a little patience.

With regards to Andrew's link, this may seem unnecessary as first as you will still be able to download the content and use it however what the DRM tool allows you to do is properly transfer the license - if you don't do this, you have to be signed in and no-one else can use the content so it's definitely worth doing.
