Xbox 360 and HDMI cable

All,

I'm after a bit of advice. I've recently bought a Samsung LE22S86BD TV and connect my Xbox360 via scart lead.

Is it worth upgrading to connect via HDMI lead? does it make that much diffference?

Does it need to be the official Xbox HDMI lead or will any lead do the job?

Thanks in advance

Any HDMI lead will do, cheapest possible is the way to go.

If you're tv is a HD one you will benefit massively from going HDMI.

Should be fine, I did have a issue with my Samsung LCDTV, but in the HDMI settings of the Xbox set the connection to RGB and use HDMI port 1 on the TV.

Like Rob says...any HDMI will do but if its the 6 pin component cable then you wont notice a difference, thats what I do on mine...frees up a HDMI port for a start but also better if you want to use optical for a surround otherwise you have to buy the adapter

The difference will be night and day matey

HDMI on some TVs is sharper than component, varies from model to model.

If OP's comments are correct, you are spot on.

If the tv is a HD one:

Scart(not component cable btw)=not in HD

HDMI=HD

I got a top range 32" Sony Bravia recently bro.

I upgraded my Xbox to a HDMI one soon after just cos I fancied it - tbh I can't tell the difference between when I had it running on component or now thru HDMI - though tbh I ain't an AV freak like some.

Pisd me off how I can't get Dolby 5.1 on my HD-DVDs now. I swear I used to get it before hand. 5.1 works on the games ok.

(that's unless I dreamed up that whole scenario)

nah I'm the same, not an AV freak, but only had my 360 just over a year so it was HDMI standard by then. Not sure about now or before but it came with a 6 pin component...think thats a full HD one and when I was switching between HDMI and Component I couldnt see any difference at all, probs would if you have the Scart adapter on but I was just sticking the wires directly into TV

Dunno why you cant get 5.1 anymore though? what component you got? 3 pin or 6 pin? maybe try swiching it back to component and using the pins rather than scart adapter?
is your TV hooked up to your surround or was it hooked up different before? my TV isnt hooked to my surround cause I only want it for gaming and dvd's...dont fancy watching Enders and having Ian Beale behind me so I use an optical to my surround, only use them both rarely together but its good for online (can hear people coming on CoD)

I had the 5.1 optical cable coming out of the usual place on the official component cable.

There's no optical slot on the official HDMI cable supplied with my Elite.

Even though I got the HDMI from my 360 running into my Bravia and an optical from the Bavia into my 5.1 panasonic system it doesn't seem to want to know when playing HD-DVDs.

The games work fine with 5.1.

Use the adapter that came with your Elite for the optical connection that should resolve the issue.

Thanks for all the responses, it looks like HDMI is gonna be bought at weekend!

Anyone recommend a particular model?

Cheers.

OP...think you can see from this that the expensive cables are rather pointless - hotukdeals.com/for…460

when you understand that HDMI is only a digital connnection format it all makes sense
