Xbox 360 elite - what waste of money

Found 27th Jul 2007
the xbox 360 elite comes out sonn around £50 -80 more than the premium. May i ask wot is the point in it the only differences are it has two extra cables, it is black and it has a 120gb hard drive.

1) They cables dont cost much on their own so buy them with a premium 360 and save money

2) You dont need 120gb in your console i know loads of people with the PS3 and they say the 60 gb disk is more than they need

3) Its black - who cares - you buy a console to play it not to look at it

4) If it is supposed to be a rival to the PS3 why the ruddy hell doesnt it have an HD-DVD player???

Please reply i would like to know what other people think on the subject

It's not chavvy iPod white, that's reason enough for me to justify its existence. Might get one myself when the price drops, if they prove more reliable than the regular one that is......which they should thanks an internal redesign.

i agree with all but one thing, 20 bg is not enough for the xbox, once youve downloaded a few demos and stored some music its already full. obviously its a money making idea but its not too bad, you can get it for 300 quid plus quidco from currys (pre-order) this is only a must have if you are intending to use the full capicity of your hard drive, there is alot of new xbox live marketplace stuff coming out (i.e movies and songs) so maybe thats why the storage might come in use.
just sold my old 18 month old premium one on ebay for 200 quid. only 100 quid extra for a new elite system doesnt sound bad at all.

Are they still continuing to make the premiums once this is released or is this going to replace the premium console?

doesnt it also have a proper hdmi output?

as for the cables not costing that much you are waaaaaay off the mark, if you want to experience proper HD gaming with 7.1 sound then you want a proper cable.... not a 20 quid one from argos.

I agree with you totally, the only real difference with this model is HDMI which should have been included when the console was launched in 2005.

I would imagine the inclusion of the HDMI port probably helps justify the price tag. I think the price difference is acceptable for the differences, and the consumer always has the choice anyway.

The 120gb is to fit in with Microsofts IPTV scheme which is starting, where you can download and stream live tv, download full length HD films etc...

i would like to have seen HD-DVD in it. But a small blow for Hd-dvd, i read that woolworths is going blu-ray only.

i do wonder if theyve fixed the heat problem with this. most probably not yet

By not including a built in HD-DVD drive M$ are hedging their bets and can always release a Blu-ray drive at a later date if they see the tide going that way (which it is).

Think i read somewhere that they haven't so it still has the same probs as the white one. Will probably switch to black when it becomes cheaper & i have much more games.

If I fancy a black one, I'll dig out a spray can...

The 120gb HDD is going to be made available as an accessory, as it isn't coloured, it's exactly the same casing as the current 20gb one. So, if you find you need extra space, purchase one.

As for HDMI, it's just a connection. I'm fine with Component.

Why would you bring out another console, just a bigger hard-drive is how I see it? "Product Life Cycle" as its known is business, sales of the Xbox 360 Preimum must be slowly starting to decline. Its exactly the same as the PS2, after a while they brought out the SlimLine as its another way to boost sales and make more money from a brand and product name.

You can buy a 200-500gb external hard-drive which plugs into the USB for that extra £50

It all depends on your perspective - everything in life is a waste of money to someone somewhere. If you don't watch telly for instance then a HD telly is a waste of money; if you don't read, books are a waste of money etc

If someone wants it, buys it and then uses it then its not normally a waste of money in their opinion......

Will a USB HDD allow all the features of the Microsoft one? e.g. store High Def content, save games etc?

Nope.

It will allow you to store music, movies (WMV), images. Nothing from Marketplace, Saves etc

I have a £10 VGA cable from Currys and I get 1080p + DD5.1 (I'd get 7.1 but I've only got 5 speakers :))

Also, you can't get a HDMI cable - the final stage of video processing in a regular 360 is analog, the Elite upgrades that to digital.
