XBOX 360 help

So my Dad and brothers have been brainwashed by this Xbox kinect thing, and have set me the task of finding out more about it. I have PS3, Wii and PSP, but have never owned an Xbox so although I know a lot about consoles, little about Xbox. So I have a few questions.
1. Can you charge controllers, or need batteries? e.c.t?
2. Would Xbox live be worth getting if my little brothers are 10 and 5, while my Dad is only interested in the kinect?
3. Can you update to the latest firmwire without Xbox live?
4. Would we NEED more memory if we only get the 4GB Xbox?

Thanks for help

Most of these answers could be found on a search engine, but as it's a forum I'll give my answers, they may not be the best but it's some advice for you...

1) you can use batteries or play and charge kits (rechargeable battery)
2) depends on the people using it, but if you do get it I'd suggest using more memory ie 16gb usb drive
3) you can download updates being a silver member (no xbox live membership needed 'gold')
4) see 2

Thanks mate

4) with the memory, 4 gigs will be perfectly adequate to save your game progress etc. You'll need to upgrade if you plan on downloading things from xbox live or if you want to install your games to your hard drive (so the xbox runs quieter).

Can I just add Kinect doesn't use controllers so won't need any batteries but obviously normal ones will.

No real need for Live unless you intend to play against other people online and if a new game requires an update it will be included on the disc and update automatically.

Also bear in mind that Kinect needs quite a lot of room apparently.

It prefers a lot of room but can make do with less.

When you configure it it calculates how much room you have.

So we would need to buy batteries every time the controller runs out of battery for playing normal games like Fifa and formula 1? Is there a way you can just charge via USB like the PS3?

Sorry for all the questions but do we have to buy the official Xbox hard drive? or can we use our own external one? I think we will be fine on space.

Thanks for the help guys

Thanks for the info.I don't actually own one,it's just what I've read.I was thinking of getting one so any feedback is helpful.

If i remember correctly when it configures it gets you to stand in your preferred position and overlays a square cut in two. If you stand in the front half then it sets it for less space but if you can move to the back half then it knows you have more room.
